Had a great chat with Matt Murphy last night for my Henri-90s Hfx music scene episode…dropping Monday. So keep an eye out for that and get ready to share share share (Only if you like what you hear, of course). A really fun chat with 90s Halifax music scene guru, Stephen Cooke, as I continue on my investigative trail for the next episode.
What a treat to Interview somebody with that level of passion and knowledge about that time in Halifax’s history. He also had some great memories of Henri, so… all around a lovely time.
His adorable shoulder buddy (look closely) only added to the experience.

Chuffed to get going on my next episode of Hali-facts…an ode to my friend, Henri Sangalang, and a look at the 90s music scene here in Halifax - that he helped shape and in turn helped shape him. In this pic he and Sloan members Chris Murphy and Jay Ferguson jam together in pre-Sloan band Kearney Lake Rd. Look for it to drop sometime next month. Photo courtesy of Tracy Mageau (Sangalang).

A deep dive into the history and possible futures of our beloved Spring Garden Road Library, aka Halifax Memorial Public Library, and much more...including a look at the history of Grafton Park, where the current old library building sits, and its history as a poor house cemetery going back to the founding of Halifax. I also discuss its importance as a memorial in post-war Halifax, future plans for the property, as well as a few interesting tidbits along the way. Pirates anybody?

Part II of my quick jaunt through Historic Halifax, where I pick things up at the end of the war of 1812 and take you through to the end of WWII. And just when you thought our many wars were behind us, well think again. American Civil War anyone? Boer War? It's shocking just how many conflicts our poor little city was dragged into. And that's just the tip of it...Leon Trotsky thrown into a Citadel Hill jail cell, the Hindenburg, and oh so much more.
