Ghana's Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed tragically lost their lives today in a helicopter crash. The incident claimed the lives of all five passengers, including the two ministers, along with three crew members on board.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

FORMER PRESIDENT BUHARI DIES IN LONDON; PRESIDENT TINUBU DISPATCHES VP SHETTIMA TO REPATRIATE REMAINS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the death of former Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away earlier today in London.

The former President died at around 4:30 p.m. after battling a long-term illness.

President Tinubu has spoken personally with Mrs. Aisha Buhari, offering his condolences and the nation’s sympathy to the grieving family.

As part of the government’s immediate response, Vice President Kashim Shettima has been instructed to travel to the United Kingdom to oversee the return of President Buhari’s remains to Nigeria.

Buhari, who was elected as Nigeria’s President in 2015 and re-elected in 2019, also served as the country's military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.

In honour of his service to the nation, President Tinubu has ordered all flags across the country to be flown at half-mast.
