Blue Heron leisurely hunting the Vancouver shoreline, masking its silhouette in the bright afternoon sunshine beaming down from above.

Did you know? Wading bird species often stand on one leg for several reasons, including: heat regulation, energy conservation, comfort, and possibly to present as less conspicuous to prey.

Ursus Americanus

It’s easy to see much of ourselves in our ‘brother across the river.’ A kinship rooted in the connection to our not so distant past, respecting and learning from one another for thousands of years.

Stand Still. The forest knows where you are. You must let it find you.✌️

“Lost” by David Wagoner is a piece I’ve thought about a lot lately. I’m often reminded of it when day dreaming of far away, wild places, or when I recognize I’m standing amongst one of the very scenes or moments he was able to capture so well. The words carry a peaceful stillness, a guideline for immersion, a reminder to be present and recognize the depth of life around us when we walk amongst the trees.

One world observing another.

The quiet, indifferent gaze is a reminder that presence and respect is the currency here, with much to learn if we can slow down and pay attention.

Cruising high above Howe Sound, Bowen Island, and the busy city of Vancouver 🦅

The aptly named Eagle Bluffs Trail via Cypress Mountain didn’t disappoint. So cool to be able to see the world from the eagles perspective.

Big Lonely Doug, flagship elder for the old growth protection movement in Western Canada.

At over 1000 years old, this Doug fir towers above the clear-cut valley below. What was once an incredibly bio-diverse, fire resistant forest and wildlife habitat is now merely a plantation.

Mono-crop tree plantations are forest fire and tree disease highways, with aerial herbicide treatments also ensuring most wildlife can never feasibly inhabit these cut blocks again.

Less than 3% of old growth remains, I sure hope we do the right thing.
