Hey HERETIC'S GUIDE lovers—yearning for more writing from ?

I'm delighted to say that Sienna is running a Kickstarter to fund the 2nd printing of "hortus animarum: a new herbal for the q***r heart"! This book of q***r plant poetry won Frog Hollow Press's annual chapbook contest in 2022, and has since sold through its initial print run. This Kickstarter is here to help get more copies out into the world, and into the hands of readers!

I (Avi) love the heck out of these poems, and desperately want you all to read them and love them WITH ME. Queerplatonic love poetry galore!!!!

Over the years, we've gotten to run a bunch of cool workshops on worldbuilding, conlanging, theme, and more. But now, we're diving into CHARACTER BUILDING!

If you've read the HERETIC'S GUIDE duology or the SÃONI CYCLE, it's no secret that Sienna Tristen and Avi Silver are both hugely character-driven writers. In this workshop, we'll be talking as a group about what makes a character compelling, and exploring strategies for breathing life into these little beings.

Expect topics like:

✨️ starting points for new characters
✨️ building enriching relationship dynamics
✨️ why secondary characters capture our hearts
✨️ the power of Profound Self Indulgence
✨️ short fiction vs. novels vs. TTRPGs
✨️ zuko, probably. it's zukos all the way down

Our annual language-building workshop with Hart House has RETURNED! ✨️Free, virtual, and open to all!!!

Whether you're hungry to get started on a big language project (Sienna) or just want to figure out enough consistent names to write the dang book (Avi), this workshop helps you:

🌟 Get a crash course on some linguistics fundamentals
🌟 Discuss best practices for working with fictional languages
🌟 Watch some great conlang tools in action
🌟 Work with a team on live language-building to demystify the process

That's right--we'll actually build the bones of a naming language together!! This process is unique every time, and we always have so much fun. If you've joined in the past, we'd LOVE to see you again!

Sienna and I have actually been cranking out a few languages for an upcoming dnd campaign, so we're even zestier than usual for this one 👀

The Story of a Planet

Shale can be described as a multimedia storytelling initiative roughly in the shape of a planet. It serves as a hub for the different stories we intend to publish, and is essentially a world building playground. The website itself offers you the tools to navigate different parts of the world featured in our stories, and gives more in-depth information on these places. Feel free to ask us questions about the specific places as well–your questions are what help us know what kind of information people might like to see when exploring!

Our flagship project is The Heretic’s Guide to Homecoming, Book One: Theory, written by our own Sienna Tristen. She, alongside Avi Silver, are the two current creators and contributors to The Shale Project.
