Grinding away at the inherited family business, Mohamed works tirelessly making sales of knock-off perfume while living as a knock-off version of his true self. Grappling with the recent loss of his father, his mother’s anxious attempts to get him married and the shadow of his hidden Q***r identity, Mohamed finds solace and connection in a day spent with a beautiful stranger who lives in self-acceptance and sees Mohamed for who he truly is under the many layers of polo-sport-adjacent cologne.

Blurring truth and fiction, ALIENS IN BEIRUT finds alienation and desire at home through scripted improv, New Wave wildlife-esque cinematography and visual experimentation. Filmmaker Raghed Charabaty (who also stars in the film as ‘Amir’) reimagines events from their life leading up to the fateful 2020 Beirut Port Explosion.
Returning to Beirut from Toronto, desperately in search of roots, Amir falls in love with a stranger by the sea. In the end, the explosion cares for nobody – leaving behind traces of undeniable desire.

Since she left Corsica where she grew up, Safia has always secured family balance. To protect her relationship with her father, she has never told him about her homosexuality. On a summer evening, she breaks the secret and runs away.

On the road along the Calanques creeks, as she makes her way through a new life, she has now to learn to live for herself beyond other people’s eyes and maybe against those she loves most.

SUBR ‎صبر is coming to Guelph!
Join us Friday, June 13 at 7 pm at for some Palestinian innovative artistry

SUBR صبر ( ) is a deep listening music project by DJ and creative Lougien Dawoudiah ( ). Through reconfigured music controllers and layered speakers, SUBR offers a study into Palestinian traditional sounds, modern productions, and field recordings. The immersive soundscapes are sonically framed with deep ambient tones that carry a series of altered Palestinian music, produced by deconstructing, filtering and examining its bare elements: drums, harmony, vocals, bass.

The name SUBR (صبر) is based on the Arabic word “Sabir” which means patience, forbearance, tolerance. The same word also means cactus 🌵: Thorny, resilient. Sometimes it flowers, sometimes it bears fruit.

🍉 Ticket proceeds will be going to Palestinian relief

Hiam Abbass left her village in Palestine, leaving behind her mother, grandmother and seven sisters; 30 years later, Hiam’s daughter, Lina, , a documentary filmmaker by profession, joins her in search of traces of the past.
