In a pumpkin patch, under moon so bright,
Two jack-o’-lanterns glowed one crisp fall night.
One was named Jack, tall, proud, and light,
His orange skin shimmered, a beautiful sight.
Beside him was Squash, short, round, and wide,
With a grin so big, he couldn’t hide.
His teeth stuck out, just a bit askew,
But his friendly smile made hearts warm too.
“Let’s have a contest,” said Jack with a grin,
“To see who can make their light shine within.”
“I’ll take that challenge!” said Squash with glee,
“My little warm light will glow, you’ll see!”
So Jack stood tall, his light burning bright,
It stretched through the fields, a powerful sight.
It lit up the patch from here to there,
Sending long shadows into the air.
But Squash stayed steady, his glow so small,
Yet cozy and warm, it welcomed them all.
Though not as bright, it was full of cheer,
Making folks smile when they came near.
Soon came the children, laughing and loud,
Running through pumpkins, so happy and proud.
“Look at the big one!” they pointed to Jack,
His light shone like gold, lighting their track.
But then they saw Squash, with his toothy grin,
And knelt down beside him, faces all in.
“Aww, he’s so cute with his funny teeth!”
They laughed as they sat in the warmth beneath.
Jack looked at Squash, his glow soft and true,
And said with a smile, “I see now, too.
Your light is cozy, mine shines far and wide,
Together we glow, side by side.”
“Yes!” Squash said, with a wink in his eye,
“Your light shows the way, and mine makes folks sigh.
We both shine bright in our own special way,
That’s why we glow, every night and each day.”
And so the two friends, on that autumn night,
Glowed in the dark, both happy and bright.
One big, one small, but both full of cheer,
Lighting the world, year after year.
The end.
