Meet Jack Thiel. 🚴
At 16, Jack is one of the riders to watch in Alberta’s junior cycling scene, racing road, track, cyclocross, and gravel. He was introduced to biking young by his dad, and three years of competitive racing later, he’s built a season around all four disciplines: Junior track championships at Edmonton’s brand new velodrome, provincials across road, time trial, and criterium, and even a trip to Tour de Bloom in Washington State.
Ask him what he loves about cycling and it’s not about medals. “I love that cycling gives me the freedom to explore places that vehicles cannot access, but would be otherwise too far to comfortably walk to. It is all my own power, and despite that, I can still go incredibly fast, well... other than the fear that my Mom and Grandma hold in their hearts.”
Jack keeps 7 Summits Snacks bars in rotation during long endurance rides and post-race recovery, and his flavour of choice is Carstensz. “It has an amazing combination of flavour, and the added bonus of caffeine, so I have the energy I need to keep pushing through my ride.”
His goals don’t have a ceiling. A continental team or a university scholarship would be the dream, but he’s chasing something bigger than results. “I do not intend to put a limit on my expectations because I believe that I can always challenge myself further, even if it is just 1% every day.”
Keep pushing, Jack. We’re proud to help fuel the ride. 🏔️
