I’m Erin, and I’m raising funds to make my home accessible.

A while ago, we had the money set aside to finish the renovations — but a contractor took our funds and never did the work. It was devastating, and it’s put us in a position we never expected to be in: having to start over and ask for help.

Right now, the space I live in isn’t accessible or safe for me. I use a wheelchair and ventilator, and basic things — like getting into the bathroom, or being able to move freely around the house — are incredibly hard.

Last up from our series - Erin’s bathroom!

Bathrooms are usually one of the least exciting rooms in a house. They’re functional, often overlooked, and not something most people think twice about. But in our home, Erin’s bathroom is the most exciting room by far.

Why? Because up until now, Erin has had to adapt to a space that was never meant for her. Like so many others with disabilities, she’s had to squeeze, reach, twist, and work around a layout that didn’t consider her needs. What should be a simple daily routine has often been filled with frustration, discomfort, and even risk.
But not anymore.

This new bathroom has been designed specifically for her. Every inch of it reflects what she needs and deserves—ease, safety, independence, and dignity. From the wider doorway to the accessible sink, the roll-in shower to the thoughtfully placed grab bars, this isn’t just a room. It’s a shift in how she can live each day.

For most people, a bathroom is just a bathroom. For Erin, it’s freedom. It’s the ability to move confidently, to care for herself more easily, to feel comfortable in her own home.

It may seem like a small change, but for us, it’s everything. It’s a reminder that thoughtful design matters—that when we build spaces that include everyone, we empower them to live fully.

For us, a porch isn’t just an architectural feature or a place to sit when the weather’s nice — it’s something much more meaningful. It’s a space where we can be close to the people we care about, share a meal, catch up, or just sit together in silence. And for our family, that connection matters even more because Erin is more vulnerable to illness. During flu season or times when something’s going around, we can still host friends and family safely, without shutting ourselves off from the world. The porch gives us that balance — fresh air, open space, and the comfort of community, all without the added worry.

It’s more than just a place to relax — it’s a lifeline to the people we love.

Next up, family room!

We will be showing you guys a few “then” and “current” photos showcasing when our construction was abandoned by our previous contractor and current photos from our construction.

We’ve never had a space large enough for all of us to be together at once. Every time we wanted to gather, celebrate, or just enjoy each other’s company, we had to make do—cramming into Erin’s bedroom, spreading out into hallways, or taking turns because there just wasn’t enough room.

That’s why we bought this house. It wasn’t just about having more space — it was about finally having a place where we could all be together, comfortably and fully, without feeling like we were bursting at the seams. A place where we could create memories, share meals, and just be together the way we’ve always wanted to

We will be showing you guys a few “then” and “current” photos showcasing when our construction was abandoned by our previous contractor and current photos from our construction. First up, the laundry room!

Laundry is a big deal in our house.
For a “regular” family, laundry day might mean a couple of loads of clothes and bedding.

For us, it means the washer and dryer run all day, all weekend—and sometimes well into the next week.

That’s why we’re so excited about our new laundry room! It’s designed to handle more loads at once, so we can finally tackle laundry in a single day instead of stretching it out for days on end.
