Turtle Island’s Song
Upon the back of Turtle strong,
The world was placed, the earth belongs.
Its shell holds stories, sun and rain,
Mountains high and endless plain.
The four directions, painted bright,
Guide the people, day and night.
Feathers whisper, rivers flow,
Sacred cycles all tribes know.
To the Iroquois, the tale is clear,
Creation’s voice is always near.
From Turtle’s back the land did rise,
Beneath the stars, across the skies.
Keeper of balance, ancient and wise,
Guardian of life where spirit lies.
Each marking carved, each color told,
Carries the wisdom of elders old.
O Turtle, steady, strong, and true,
The nations walk because of you.
Through every season, time, and land,
You hold the circle in your hand.
