If you follow the news at all, then you will know that these days feel uncertain and it can be the cause of much heartache and much anxiety for many people. So today I wanted to share for a moment, about one of my favorite bible verses. It might bring you some peace. β€οΈ On more than one occasion I have found myself repeating the words of ....
Isaiah 41:10" So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." π
What an amazing promise is ours. π No matter what is going on around us, He is there to strengthen and to uphold us. He is always with us. π
I am aware that there are many today going through really difficult times. Some of you have reached out on social media asking for prayer and I am humbled by that, and I pray to my God who knows the needs and knows the people even when I don't.
There are some fighting battles with depression and anxiety. I do not want to make light of these feelings, so if you are feeling overwhelmed with no way out, then please seek professional help.
If anxiety is threatening to overwhelm you in the moment and you start to panic, these steps may help ground you:
- 5 things you can see (look around, name objects like a chair, a pen, or a lamp)
- 4 things you can touch (feel textures like your clothes, a desk, or your hair)
- 3 things you can hear (listen for sounds like traffic, a clock ticking, or a hum)
- 2 things you can smell (notice scents like coffee, soap, or fresh air)
- 1 thing you can taste (focus on a flavor in your mouth or take a sip of water)
This is a very tangible things you can do right in the moment when you are panicking.
To help combat those terrifying moments of panic, try one or more of these tips when you are a little more relaxed. If you feel anxious or stressed occasionally, then maybe these will help:
β
1. Pray - mediate - mindfulness, whatever you call it - When I am feeling a bit anxious, I like to take a few moments and breathe deep. I pray; others may meditate or practise mindfulness. Whatever you do, feel the calm in yourself. I pray because I believe in the assurance of the bible verse that I am never alone!!
β
2. Talk a walk in nature and enjoy the trees. It might be difficult if the weather is not great but breathe deep the outside air and listen. Listen to the sound of water perhaps, or the birds or whatever is around you. Listening to the waves on the shoreline is one of the things I love. But you do what you love -- really notice the little things in nature.
β
3. Exercise - Anxious energy bottled up is no good for the physical, mental or spiritual health. So run, jog or do yoga or kick boxing or a brisk walk. Do something that will get your heart rate pumping and that anxious energy out.
β
4. Finally, practise journalling. This one is my favorite. Writing down those things, maybe little things, that you are grateful for each day. It will turn your focus from the negative and allow you to focus on the good, the beautiful and the positive, that is all around us.
Sometimes a change in focus will alleviate your anxious thoughts. Be thankful and grateful for what we have.
Count your blessings, Name them one by one!! π There is a blessing that comes from actually doing it!!
These are just a few things anyone can do when feelings of fear and anxiety threaten to overcome. As a Christian, I have the assurance, that there is one standing next to me and will strengthen me when I need it most. In those times when I feel I need to do something more, I have those activities to help me as well.
Cheers friends. Have a blessed day and Do Not Fear!! πΉClaim your promise today!
