Breaking News for Nacogdoches.

The Interstate 69 project originated over fifteen years ago and the Nacogdoches interchange on the South Loop was scheduled to be completed six years ago. But now, officials say it may take as much as an additional twelve years.

"We have had one setback after another with this project. Too many setbacks to discuss in their entirety. 72 people have been terminated for drinking on the job. 86 workers were terminated for doing drugs on the job. 5 workers have either fallen off or jumped off the flyover. 113 people have quit the project, stating that they shouldn't have to work so hard. 213 workers were arrested by ICE. This is just a few of the incidents that have caused this project to fail. We now estimate the completion date as being in the mid 2030's in approximately 10 - 12 years. We are down to only having 4 men left in our Project Workforce. There is also the possibility that the project may be terminated due to a lack of interest." Tim Monzingo explained. "No one really gives a $hit anymore."

Tim Monzingo, public information officer for the TxDOT Lufkin District, said crews are working to make roadways interstate compliant by updating US 59 to meet interstate specifications.
