Subtle editing >>>
I’m a strong proponent of team “don’t over-edit your photos. The world is so beautiful and in my opinion the excessive filters detract from its charm. It’s fun to play with filters and edit your photos to look like film, but my general rule is that the photo should still look like it could be a raw picture to the untrained eye (whether film or digital)

Manor Photoshoot Part 2! A bit about the outfit - it is entirely thrifted for the purpose of the shoot - I found everything in two Tallinn thrift stores and paid 37€ for the whole look 💁🏼‍♀️. Not to toot my own horn, but I honestly couldn’t believe how well I was able to match the aesthetic I was going for without spending 100s of euros. I also absolutely loved the process of picking out clothes for the shoot and the “art director” side of it all.

PS It’s such an inconvenience having to crop my images to make them fit on Insta - it totally throws off the composition. Estonia is known for its ghost stories - there’s ghost tales seemingly on every corner. Almost every respectable manor boasts at least one respectable ghost. They range from very benign apparitions, the kind that are just content to play the shoulder tap game with visitors, to the kind of ghosts whose stories chill you to the bone. As a child, I adored visiting the castles and manors of Estonia and listening to the ghost stories and so when I ended up in one of these “haunted manors” a few days ago, I of course had to create a photoshoot inspired by it. The story is a usual one - a young girl and a young boy who weren’t supposed to fall in love, couldn’t be together because of their families and the girl died of grief. That girl supposedly haunts the estate. I personally had no paranormal experiences in the manor, but I can’t deny that it was a bit eerie being there and I was sure glad that I wasn’t alone. I should say that my dog Penny was howling a lot, but she’s a barker, so I don’t know how much of a tell her howling is…
On a separate note, self-portraits are so difficult to do’ Every angle takes at least 20 min to set up and perfect . Also, if you’re wondering why one of my hands is usually hidden in my photos, it’s because I’m using it to press the shutter remotely

I believe that the most important step to becoming a photographer is learning to look. In order to capture the beauty around you, you have to be present, taking in all the charm of our world. Photography thus becomes a wonderful mindfulness practice. If you get lost in thought or become distracted, you might miss something truly magical. I find myself drawing inspiration from strangers, friends, animals, nature, art…. On that note, here’s a balcony I thought was absolutely perfect

When you don’t have a model and you want to practice, start by shooting some self-portraits I suppose… so that’s what I’m doing. I’ll be sharing my photographs on here from now on, of myself, of other people, of nature, of art… anything and everything that inspires me
