NOTE OF CAUTION!!!!! If you are faced with no hope of help for the orphan and are willing to let your moral obligation over-ride your legal one, then know this: bringing these little ones up is not for the weak.. a HUGE amount of time and energy is needed along with $$$ to invest in it's care and feeding. Also know this... That cuddly baby WILL 'wild up', and you WILL be bitten, to the bone. If you feel you canNOT invest the time, $ or energy times 100 (because this is how overburdened and frustrated you will feel some days!)... I will try to help you and lead you to the individuals and agencies that may be able to help you.

IF YOU FIND A BABY ---> SPEED IS OF THE ESSENCE. They dehydrate very quickly... Put the baby in a towel with warm bottle of water around it and either get the baby to someone who can help, or contact me to learn how to begin re-hydration.

Her heart beat with the rhythm of the waves, the song of the coral reefs, the shimmering depths of her underwater world. The forest, with all its quiet beauty, was foreign to her soul.

With one last longing glance at the Prince, Frances stepped back into the shadows. She whispered to the wind, “My place is beneath the sea, where the tides remember me.”

And as the forest held its breath, Frances turned away and slipped into the cool embrace of the ocean, leaving the world of humans behind but carrying a love as deep as the sea itself.

Frances swam deeper and deeper, the sunlight dimming as she left the shore behind. The water grew warmer, familiar, alive with currents that wrapped around her like an old friend. Soon, the glow of Atlantis began to rise from the ocean floor — a city of towers spun from coral and domes paved in gold, shimmering like a dream beneath the sea.

Lantern-fish lit the winding streets. Pearls lined the gates. And at the heart of it all was the sea itself — moving through every corridor, every current, every soul.

As Frances glided through the golden archway, a peace washed over her. This was home. Not the forest, not the shore. Not even the Prince.

Atlantis.

She knew then that her path had always led here — not to a love above the waves, but to a purpose beneath them. She wasn’t meant to walk beside the humans, but to protect them. To guide them. She was a keeper of the tides, a guardian of safe passage.

From that day forward, Frances watched the seas from the high coral spires of Atlantis. With her keen eyes and steady heart, she guided every ship that wandered near — not with words, but with currents, stars, and the subtle pull of the moonlit tide.

And though the Prince never knew her name, he always felt a strange calm when sailing near those waters — as if something just beneath the surface was keeping watch, and always leading him home.

Because she was.

She was Frances, the golden-hearted squirrmaid of Atlantis — and the sea was safe in her care.

Frances stepped softly through the edge of the forest, the unfamiliar scent of pine and earth filling her senses. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. There, standing quietly among the trees, was the Prince.

He looked out of place in the wild wood, but his calm presence seemed to belong somehow. Frances watched him from behind a cluster of ferns, her heart pounding with hope and hesitation.

For a moment, she imagined walking toward him, sharing stories of the ocean’s wonders and the secrets of Atlantis. But as she looked beyond him — at the tall trees, the dry soil, and the silent, still air — a gentle truth settled deep inside her.

Her home was not here.

Frances couldn’t keep her heart anchored any longer. One twilight, when the moon hung low and full, casting silver ribbons across the waves, she swam to the shore and whispered an ancient melody — a squirrmaid’s rite as old as the sea itself.

The waters shimmered around her. Her shimmering tail split and reshaped, transforming into two soft, wobbly legs. Her sea-glossed fur dried into downy softness, and she wrapped herself in kelp-weaved cloth, trembling with awe and excitement. For the first time, she stepped onto land — uncertain, barefoot, and filled with wonder.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful squirrmaid named Frances.
Frances was unlike any other creature in the sea — part squirrel, part mermaid, with a shimmering tail the color of sunlit chestnut and a heart full of wonder.

She was enchanted by the human world above, especially the majestic ships that sailed through the tides of her ocean home. But none captured her heart quite like the Ashes of Atlantis — a grand, weathered vessel with silvered sails and a hull etched by time. It was captained by a brave and kind-hearted prince whose voice carried like music over the water.

Each evening, Frances would perch on a sea-slicked rock, hidden behind a curtain of kelp and moonlight, and watch the horizon. Her paws clasped tightly in anticipation, she would whisper to the waves, “Please bring him home tonight.” And when the sails of the Ashes of Atlantis appeared at last, silhouetted by the stars, her heart would leap like a dolphin through the spray.

Frances was smitten — not just with the prince, but with the idea that perhaps, just perhaps, there was a place for her between two worlds.

She dreamed of guiding his ship through dangerous reefs, of singing to calm the storm winds, of one day showing him the wonders hidden beneath the tide. But for now, she watched and waited, tail swishing softly in the current, carrying hope like a pearl in her heart.

It's an easy transaction... but as I mentioned, please message me if you have any questions. ******. ******. I made this page in hope that someone who finds a baby squirrel can help it grow into the wonderful strong adult it was meant to be, :) and to share my love and admiration of these intelligent, industrious creatures! I share a lot of photos from around the web, and in NO WAY claim ownership to those that are not mine- if they are yours, let me know and I'll give you props! My intention is ONLY to share the love... Not to claim fame for any piece of media that doesn't belong to me!. The squirrels are quite capable of that on their own! :) My background: I am a 'Squirrel Whisperer'. I was thrust into raising a baby squirrel when I realized there was no one that would help, despite many, many efforts. The bottom line is we just do NOT have enough Wildlife rehabbers available; the Ministry of Natural Resources is NOT making this any easier by promoting archaic inane ideas for the relocation of found wildlife. Through much research and the help of tens of Rehabbers, I learned the skills necessary to raise my little girl into a strong, extremely healthy adult, capable of being released into the 'wild' where she belonged. That was in 2009. I continue to work with squirrels today. My squirrels have not forgotten me.. they visit every morning to have a healthy breakfast, and then they go on their way, doing.. well, whatever it is that Squirrels do in their spare time. :) They tend to sleep away the warm afternoons, becoming active again before dusk. My hope is that if you find a pinkie or a juvenile, you will know what to do immediately or have someone to help. If you feel you do not have recourse and can raise it yourself, I can help you out, or introduce you to the people and resources you will need to do it yourself. In Ontario see: http://www.ontariowildliferescue.ca/wildlifecentres/?care=squirrel for assistance if I'm not available! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IMPORTANT NOTE: It is ILLEGAL to harbour wildlife in Ontario. The rule is this : "all rehabilitated immature wildlife outside a rabies High Risk Area shall be released as close as possible to where it was found up to a maximum distance of 15 km. The maximum release distance for adult wildlife will remain at 1 km"... it's decent I suppose, easy enough to accommodate for a rehabber with space and in the 'right' kind of area. But when you consider that an orphan has no established territory (being still in it's drey etc. when found) it's just, well... *sigh*.😣 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A NOTE OF CAUTION!!!!! If you are faced with no hope of help for the orphan and are willing to let your moral obligation over-ride your legal one, then know this: bringing these little ones up is not for the weak.. a HUGE amount of time and energy is needed along with $$$ to invest in it's care and feeding.
