On a warm Sunday evening, the historic Oaks Garden Theatre at Niagara Falls became the setting for a small but spirited vigil in support of conservative commentator 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐤. From 5:30 until 7:00 p.m., 𝗳𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀—𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘄, 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 assembled for an event designed to 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀-𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

𝐀𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 travelled from Oshawa to attend and document the gathering, and actively participated by **𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗦𝗔 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀** to attendees at the start of the event.

🗣 𝐀 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞-𝐔𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬

The program reflected the breadth of the audience:

○ A local reverend opened the vigil with a call to prayer and reflection.

○ A practicing pathologist spoke about the intersection of science, ethics, and faith.

○ A churchgoing father of 13 children spoke about how blessed he felt to have such a large, loving family and a marriage of 28 years. His **𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻**, now living without their husband and father.

○ Adding political weight to the evening, a sitting Member of Parliament addressed attendees, urging them to remain engaged in civic life and to “𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲”.

While the atmosphere was peaceful and respectful, there was a small but visible police presence. Two officers walked regular laps around the garden throughout the event, keeping a 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Attendees—including families with children—sat attentively during the program. From the middle of the crowd, it was difficult to see the children behind, but the ones nearby were sitting and listening. At one point, a little girl tried to dash toward a dog, but her mother gently stopped her. At 7:00 p.m., the gathering shifted from speeches to symbolism. When attendees reached the middle of the Rainbow Bridge, everyone came together to sing the Canadian national anthem, followed by the U.S. anthem, creating a moment of 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀-𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

At that same spot, Canadian and U.S. supporters 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 — a moment participants called “𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗻𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿”.

Many attendees described the vigil as “𝗨𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴” and “𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴”. For some, it was their first time at a political or religious gathering of this nature.

“It’s encouraging to see families here together. Even though we’re few, it shows that people still care deeply about these values,” one mother commented.

As the calendar flipped to 2025, the United States was shaken by a series of violent incidents that left a trail of destruction and raised alarm over the persistence of extremism and violence in American cities. From New Orleans to Las Vegas and New York, the attacks revealed a disturbing trend of terror, gang-related violence, and youth clashes.

New Orleans Attack: A Deadly Display of Radical Extremism
The first attack occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2025, when 42-year-old Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a rented Ford F-150 Lightning truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The attack resulted in at least 15 fatalities and 35 injuries, leaving the city in shock. Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police after his truck crashed into a group of people.

Investigations have revealed that Jabbar, who had traveled to Egypt in 2023, rented the vehicle through the Turo app. The FBI is exploring possible links to ISIS, as Jabbar displayed an ISIS flag during the attack and had previously posted supportive messages on social media. Authorities are now facing the daunting task of uncovering how this individual, a decorated military veteran, became radicalized and turned his violent beliefs into deadly action.

This incident highlights the persistent threat of homegrown terrorism and the importance of counterterrorism efforts to prevent such attacks.

Las Vegas Explosion: A Violent Statement of Destruction
In a separate attack on the same day, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The driver, 37-year-old decorated soldier Matthew Livelsberger, detonated the vehicle, which was loaded with fireworks and gas canisters. The explosion resulted in Livelsberger's death and injuries to seven bystanders.

The explosion was a deliberate act, and like Jabbar, Livelsberger rented the vehicle through the Turo app. While authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack, no definitive link has been established between the Las Vegas explosion and the New Orleans truck attack. However, both incidents highlight the potential dangers of using rented vehicles as tools of destruction and the need for stricter monitoring of rental platforms.

New York City Mass Shooting: Youth Violence Escalates
In New York City, the first day of the year saw a mass shooting outside the Amazura Concert Hall in Jamaica, Queens. Four individuals approached a group of approximately 15 people waiting outside the venue and opened fire, injuring ten teenagers aged 16 to 20. The victims were hospitalized, and fortunately, all are expected to recover. The shooting occurred during a memorial for 16-year-old Taearion Mungo, who was fatally shot in October 2024.

Mungo, who had ties to the FNO street gang, is believed to have been the target of the shooting, which authorities suspect was gang-related. The attack is part of a broader pattern of escalating youth violence in New York City, with four teenagers fatally shot in the four days leading up to the New Year's incident. These shootings have fueled concerns about the growing influence of gangs and the rise of violent youth clashes in urban areas.

The NYPD is investigating the shooting and has called for the public's help in identifying the suspects. As the city grapples with this wave of violence, the need for stronger intervention strategies and community outreach becomes ever more apparent.

A Call for Action
These three incidents serve as a grim reminder of the threats that continue to plague the United States. Whether it’s the rise of radical extremism, gang violence, or youth-related clashes, the attacks have exposed vulnerabilities in public safety and security.

On September 11, 2001, the world stood still as a series of coordinated terrorist attacks shattered the fabric of American society. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost when hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field in Pennsylvania. The attacks left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of people across the globe, forever altering the course of history.

Today, more than two decades later, we remember not just the horror and devastation, but also the resilience, courage, and unity that emerged in the aftermath. 9/11 became a defining moment, one that brought out the best in humanity even in the darkest of times. First responders, firefighters, police officers, and ordinary citizens risked—and in many cases, gave—their lives in the pursuit of saving others. Their bravery was matched only by the outpouring of support from communities across the nation and around the world.

For many, the memories of that day remain vivid, etched into their souls. Families who lost loved ones continue to carry the weight of that grief, as do the survivors and those who witnessed the events firsthand. He was not only welcoming and engaging but also showed a keen interest in our photographer's camera and the activities AIM was involved in at the fair. His enthusiasm and curiosity about what was happening around him added a special touch to the booth and exemplified the community spirit that makes the fair so memorable.

During the recent long weekend, the Peterborough Zoo, located at 1300 Water Street, Peterborough, Ontario, was a hive of activity as families and animal enthusiasts flocked to the site to enjoy its free admission. Conversely, some of the zoo’s cooler-climate inhabitants, such as the lynx and otters, sought refuge in shaded areas, reminding visitors of the importance of suitable habitats for wildlife during extreme weather conditions.
