Strathcona Studios Bringing Canada’s past to life through dramatic film. Archival materials meet cinematic storytelling & AI. In development - Diefenbaker: One Canada. 🇨🇦

07/01/2026

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦 Today we're sharing this developing scene from Diefenbaker: One Canada. Young John Diefenbaker and his family are travelling west from Neustadt, Ontario to Saskatchewan in 1903, a move made largely because of his father’s failing health, believed to have been tuberculosis. After their provisions were mistakenly sent on the wrong train, fellow passengers—likely immigrants from Eastern Europe—shared food and blankets with them.

It feels like a fitting moment for Canada Day: strangers helping strangers in a new land, with kindness crossing language and background.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our crowdfunder so far! We’re extending it through the summer as we continue building this film.

👀 Here is a new glimpse of Diefenbaker: One Canada.

We have completed what may be our most ambitious sequence yet: a young John Diefenbaker at sea on a 1916 troopship, heading into an uncertain future. It captures the scale, atmosphere, and cinematic scope we are working to bring to this film.

As Canada Day approaches, we are in the final stretch of our early support campaign, which runs through midnight on July 1. If this project speaks to you, we would be grateful for your support — and if you think others would be interested, we would very much appreciate your sharing it as well! 🇨🇦

Here’s a sample from the Diefenbaker: One Canada soundtrack — a song called “One Canada.”

At the $25 Soundtrack Bundle level in our July 1 crowdfunding campaign, supporters receive:

• An advance ticket to the film when it’s completed
• The full 15-track digital soundtrack as MP3 downloads
• A 45-minute digital candle video that plays the soundtrack in full

The music and digital candle are delivered right away, so you can start experiencing the project as the film develops.

Enjoy a preview of “One Canada"!

We're sharing a short clip inspired by Canada’s Answer (1918), Norman Wilkinson’s First World War painting of a convoy crossing the Atlantic.

In our developing film Diefenbaker: One Canada, we’re building a scene that imagines a young John Diefenbaker among those making that journey overseas.

The clip begins with the original painting, then brings it to life through AI video generation — a small glimpse of how we’re using new tools to tell Canadian history with emotion, atmosphere, and cinematic scope.

Set to “Canada’s Answer,” a track from our original soundtrack.

A small moment of Canadian history, story, and reflection.

In creating Diefenbaker: One Canada, we’re using AI video generation to tell a serious Canadian historical story with emotion, atmosphere, and cinematic scope.

Our first scene is live — watch it in the Reels or on our website homepage and tell us what you think. This is one of the first scenes that made us believe the film could work. It features John and Edna Diefenbaker in a private moment of doubt, loyalty, and resolve.

Is it convincing? Would you keep watching?

And if you'd like to be a part of making this film happen, please consider supporting the film here, through our Canada Day crowdfunding campaign. A $10 advance ticket gets you in! https://www.strathconastudios.com/crowdfunder
