🇨🇦 DAY 5 — WHO IS YOUR REFERENCE IN CANADA 🇨🇦 ?

Please don’t finish your interview, hear “Can you send us your references?” and THAT is when you start looking for who to use. 😭

As you’re job hunting, your references should already be in your mind.

Hey, I’m Grace. If you’re meeting me for the first time, I’m that mentor you need to land the job in Canada, and this week we’re resetting the way you job hunt.

Today, we’re talking about REFERENCES.

And please, a reference is not just somebody who knows your name. 😂

Ask yourself:

What does this person actually know about me? What can they honestly say about the way I work?

For many professional jobs, you may need people who can genuinely speak about your skills, reliability and professionalism — a former supervisor, manager, instructor, placement supervisor, volunteer coordinator or another appropriate professional.

And ALWAYS ask before putting somebody down as your reference.

Your Day 5 assignment: Identify 3 people who could genuinely speak about you professionally. Ask their permission and make sure you have their correct contact information.

Don’t wait until the employer asks before you start preparing.

And tomorrow? 👀

INTERVIEW DAY.

Because after fixing your strategy, resume, job search, networking and references… imagine finally getting the interview and going there to recite memorized answers like you’re writing an exam. 😭😂

Tomorrow, we’re fixing that.

If you’ve been following from Day 1, comment DAY 5 🇨🇦 below.

DAY 4: I DONT KNOW ANYONE IN CANADA 🇨🇦. I hear this a lot, especially from newcomers.

But how will you know people if you don’t intentionally put yourself where you can meet people?

Hey, I’m Grace. If you’re meeting me for the first time, I’m that mentor you need to land the job in Canada, and this week we’re resetting the way you job hunt.

Today, we’re talking about NETWORKING.

And no 😂 networking doesn’t mean asking everybody you meet, “Please, do you know anywhere hiring?”

Volunteer. Attend job fairs. Go to professional events. Join associations in your field. Use LinkedIn. Attend community events. Talk to people at school, work, church or your placement.

I still volunteer even though I already have jobs in Canada.

Why?

Because volunteering is bigger than just getting “Canadian experience.” You build relationships, sharpen your skills, and people actually get to see how you work.

Sometimes someone hears, “We’re looking for somebody with this experience,” and immediately thinks:

“Wait, I know someone.”

That’s networking.

But remember: Networking can open the door. It cannot do the job for you.

Your Day 4 assignment: Find ONE event happening in your city and ONE place where you can volunteer or genuinely get involved.

And come back tomorrow because we’re talking about REFERENCES.

Because the person you met at an event today may tell you about a job…

But does that automatically mean you should call them tomorrow and say, “Please, can you be my reference?” 😂

No. We need to talk about that.

If you’re following from Day 1, comment DAY 4 🇨🇦 and tell me what city you’re job hunting from.

🇨🇦 DAY 3: INDEED IS NOT THE ENTIRE CANADIAN JOB MARKET.

Yes, I said it. 😭

If your entire job-search routine is:

Wake up.
Open Indeed.
Type “jobs near me.”
Apply to whatever appears.
Close your phone.

Brother… we still have work to do. 😂

Welcome to DAY 3 of ONE WEEK TO RESET YOUR JOB HUNT IN CANADA. 🇨🇦

Today, I want you to stop searching only for JOBS and start searching for EMPLOYERS.

Looking for PSW work?

Which hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement residences, home-care agencies and community organizations are in your area?

Looking for administrative work?

Which municipalities, hospitals, colleges, universities, school boards, nonprofits and companies hire people with your skills?

GO DIRECTLY TO THEIR CAREER PAGES.

Use Indeed.
Use LinkedIn.
Use Job Bank Canada.
Check employer websites.
Set job alerts.
Explore reputable staffing/recruitment agencies relevant to your field.

But please don’t sit on ONE job board waiting for the entire Canadian job market to come and meet you there. 😭

🇨🇦 YOUR DAY 3 ASSIGNMENT:

Find 10 employers in your city that hire people in the role you want.

Not 10 vacancies.

10 EMPLOYERS.

Write their names down.

Find their career pages.

Follow them.

Check what they’re hiring for.

Because the question is no longer:

❌ “Where can I find any job?”

Start asking:

✅ “Which organizations need the skills I have?”

That small change can completely change the way you job hunt.

And tomorrow we’re leaving the job boards completely.

Because some opportunities start with something you cannot upload on Indeed:

A RELATIONSHIP. 👀

DAY 4: NETWORKING. 🇨🇦

If you’re following this Job Hunt Reset from Day 1, comment “DAY 3 🇨🇦” below.

And send this to that person who opens Indeed every morning and says, “Grace, there’s nothing there!” 😂

🇨🇦 YOU MAY BE QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB. YOUR RESUME MAY BE THE REASON THEY DON’T KNOW IT.

Welcome to DAY 2 of ONE WEEK TO RESET YOUR JOB HUNT IN CANADA. 🇨🇦

Yesterday, we talked about strategy.

Today, bring out that resume you’ve been sending everywhere.

We need to talk. 😂

Customer service job? Same resume.

Administrative job? Same resume.

Healthcare job? Same resume.

Brother… one resume should not be flying everywhere. 😭

Your resume is NOT your life story.

It should quickly show the employer the skills, experience, qualifications and VALUE you have that are relevant to THAT particular job.

And yes, the format matters too.

Chronological?
Functional/skills-focused?
Combination/hybrid?

Choose what presents your experience honestly and effectively — but whatever format you choose, TAILOR IT TO THE JOB.

And that cover letter?

If the employer specifically asks for one, please don’t send only your resume and then wonder why nobody called. 😭

YOUR DAY 2 ASSIGNMENT 👇🏾

Find ONE job you genuinely want.

Put the job posting beside your resume.

Then ask yourself:

“If I were the employer, would this resume clearly show me why this person fits this job?”

If the answer is no…

DON’T SUBMIT IT YET. FIX IT.

Tomorrow is DAY 3, and we’re talking about WHERE you’re actually looking for jobs in Canada.

Because Indeed is useful…

but Indeed is NOT the entire Canadian job market. 👀🇨🇦

Who is following this series from Day 1? Comment “DAY 2” below. 👇🏾

09/03/2026

One thing I hear a lot is:

“Why should I pay someone to teach me how to look for a job in Canada? I can apply by myself.” 😂

My brother, my sister… absolutely.

You CAN apply by yourself.

You can also spend six months sending the same resume everywhere and wondering why nobody is calling you. 😭😂

When I came to Canada, I didn’t just apply for jobs.

I learned the system.

I volunteered.
I changed how I approached my resume.
I learned how to interview here.
I learned where to look and what employers were actually looking for.

And I started getting jobs.

Cleaner. Caregiver. Food & hospitality. Childcare. Youth work. PSW. Dental assisting.

Different fields. Same Canada. 🇨🇦

So when someone pays me for a consultation or attends my masterclass, you’re not paying me because you’re incapable of applying for a job yourself.

You’re paying so you don’t have to figure out everything I figured out the hard way.

There’s a difference. 😂

🇨🇦 APPLIED TO 100 JOBS AND STILL NO INTERVIEW? STOP APPLYING FOR A MINUTE.

Yes, I said stop. 😭

Because another 50 applications may not fix what is actually wrong.

Someone tells me, “Grace, I’ve applied to over 200 jobs and nobody has called me.”

My first question is always:

HOW did you apply?

Were you actually qualified for those jobs?

Did you check whether your profession requires licensing or registration in Canada?

Did you read the requirements properly?

Did you follow the employer’s application instructions?

Or are you using the same resume for customer service today, administration tomorrow, healthcare on Wednesday and warehouse on Friday? 😭

Brother… the problem may not be the number of applications. It may be the STRATEGY.

And please stop selling your NEED to employers.

They already know you need a job. That’s why you applied. 😂

Start communicating your VALUE.

What skills do you have?

What experience can you transfer?

What problem can you solve for that employer?

Does your application actually show them that?

YOUR DAY 1 ASSIGNMENT 🇨🇦

Before you apply for another job, go back to your last 5 applications.

Ask yourself:

Was I actually qualified?
Did I meet the important requirements?
Did I follow the instructions?
Did my application clearly show why I was a good fit?

You might discover what has been going wrong.

This is DAY 1 of ONE WEEK TO RESET YOUR JOB HUNT IN CANADA. 🇨🇦

Tomorrow, we’re opening that resume you’ve been sending everywhere. 😂

Because sometimes YOU are qualified — but your resume is not proving it.

If you’re currently job hunting in Canada, follow this series from Day 1.

And send this post to somebody who keeps saying, “I’ve applied everywhere!” 😭
