Ottawa’s Newest Italian Restaurant. What’s on the Menu at Carletto Trattoria?

carletto.ottawa just opened in downtown Ottawa, bringing fresh pasta, wood-fired pizza, Italian classics and a table-side cheese wheel experience.

Here’s what you should know before you go:

📍 Where is Carletto Trattoria?
161 Laurier Avenue West in downtown Ottawa by The Metcalfe Hotel near Metcalfe Street.

What is Carletto?
Carletto is a new modern Italian trattoria serving house-made pasta, wood-fired pizza, antipasti & classic Italian dishes, with a large central bar for w**e & cocktails.

What’s on the menu at Carletto Ottawa?
Carletto serves Italian-style brunch, lunch and dinner. We went for dinner shortly after their grand opening and had:

“Polpo” Grilled octopus antipasti (appetizer), “Pollo Parmesano” a chicken parmesan with spaghetti in pomodoro sauce. Classic Margherita Wood-fired pizza. And one of the more unique dishes we had to try was the “Spaghetti al Formaggio” Cheese Wheel Experience is spaghetti with a creamy white w**e & truffle sauce, prepared tableside inside a pecorino cheese wheel. It’s dinner & a small dairy-based performance. Dinner only.

What else is on the menu?
Other than the pastas, wood-fired pizzas, Carletto serves lamb shank, steak, Bronzino (fish) & Italian-style desserts.

Is it Vegan/Vegetarian?
You may find some vegetarian options or be able to adjust, but we did not see any clearly label vegan options.

Is it Halal?
No we did not see any Halal certifications on the menu.

Is it Gluten-free?
No we could not find any gluten-free pasta, gluten-free pizza crust, or specifically labelled gluten-free dishes on its current menu.

Does Carletto have a patio?
Yes there is a spacious patio in front on Laurier.

Carletto is one of Ottawa’s newest Italian restaurants and is now open in downtown Ottawa. Make a reservation if you plan to go soon!

New Restaurants Opening Soon in Ottawa | Part 2

Since our last new restaurants opening soon in Ottawa post, we’ve discovered more new spots & had a few suggestions from you as well! So we went for a little ride around the city for Part 2.

Many of these new Ottawa restaurants are in Downtown Ottawa & Centretown, but don’t worry, we’ll be expanding our search into the east & west ends of Ottawa soon!

Here are 6 more new restaurants & bars opening soon in Ottawa:

1. Hubar HuBar 
📍 Where is it: 101 Clarence Street, ByWard Market
What is it: Hubar is a new Asian-inspired street food restaurant & bar along the bustling downtown strip of restaurants & clubs on Clarence Street.
Opening: Currently in soft opening.

2. Heaven in a Box Heaven in A box 
📍 Where is it: 350 Bay Street, near Ottawa Chinatown
What is it: Mystery solved! It’s a new Thai street food restaurant.
Opening: Late August/early September.

3. Tough Luck Tough Luck 
📍 Where is it: 752 Somerset Street, Ottawa Chinatown
What is it: A new w**e bar opening in Chinatown. That’s about all we know so far.
Opening: No official date announced.

4. Regalz Kitchen & Bar REGALZ Kitchen and Bar 
📍 Where is it: 27 Dalhousie Street, ByWard Market
What is it: A West African/Nigerian restaurant & cocktail lounge from the GTA opening its second location in Downtown Ottawa.
Opening: No official date announced.

5. Carletto carletto.ottawa 
📍 Where is it: 161 Laurier Avenue, Downtown Ottawa
What is it: A new Italian restaurant by Gray Collection Gray Collection serving “Pasta, Pizza and Vino”.
Opening: Soft opening August 21

6. Schoolhouse Pizza Schoolhouse Pizza 
📍 Where is it: 15 Clarence Street, ByWard Market
What is it: The 3rd Ottawa location of this popular New York-style pizzeria.
Opening: No official date announced.
