It's not over yet. After a week of tornadoes and damage assessments at an evacuated Alberta campground, the same dangerous pattern fires up one more time tonight — bringing supercells, large hail, 100 km/h wind gusts, and another possible tornado.
The risk has shifted west: Manitoba should mostly dodge it this round, while Alberta and Saskatchewan (especially Edmonton, Red Deer, Saskatoon, and Regina) face the greatest threat this evening into the overnight hours.

Canada's Submarine Deal: Germany Wins Out Over South Korea

Prime Minister Mark Carney has named Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems as the frontrunner to build the Royal Canadian Navy's next generation of submarines. Ottawa is now moving to negotiate terms for as many as 12 vessels, in a program projected to cost roughly $100 billion across its full lifespan — placing it among the biggest defence contracts Canada has ever pursued.

Government officials hope to lock in a final agreement sometime next year. Should those talks fall through, South Korea's Hanwha Ocean stands ready as the alternative choice. Beyond bolstering naval capability, the government says the deal is designed to deliver lasting economic and industrial payoffs for Canada.
