A note from our General Manager, Chris Mathieson:

Friends, I wanted to share some exciting news: as of this week, the brand-new Grist Mill Operations Society is officially the operator of the Grist Mill and Gardens! After twelve seasons of me carrying the torch alone, I’m excited to be stepping into a new role as Executive Director, working with a board of passionate volunteers who care deeply about this place and its future.

Now, here’s where you come in. Over the last dozen years, we’ve built something really special together—thousands of memories, countless jars of jam, full picnic blankets, and so much music, learning, and laughter. Our new board needs to see just how much love and support this site has in our community, and the best way to show them is to finish this season stronger than ever.

Here are some ways you can help in the next six weeks:

- Pop by for lunch or a snack in the Tea Room
- Pick up something from the gift shop or preserves shelf
- Book a last-minute stay in the campground
- Join us for one of the final Sunday Dinners
- Grab early-bird tickets for the Heritage Fall Fair
- Donate something special to our big Fall Fair Silent Auction
- Bring your group or class for a tour or field trip

The busier we are now, the more confidence our new board will have in investing in the off-season planning that makes next year exceptional.

So, if you’ve been meaning to come by, now is the perfect time. (And hey—help me look good for my new bosses, will you? 😉)"

LATEST UPDATE FROM BC WILDFIRE SERVICE AS OF TODAY (Sept.4; noon)

Their next update will be at 2:30 pm

We continue to respond to the Mine Creek wildfire (K61891) which is burning 44 kilometres northeast of Hope. The fire’s status is Out of Control, and it is currently estimated to be 1,900 hectares in size and growing.

Yesterday, September 3, record high temperatures and winds beyond those forecasted resulted in Rank 5 fire behavior on this incident, meaning an active crown fire with moderate to long-range spotting and independent spot fire growth. As of this morning, the Mine Creek fire is displaying Rank 2 and 3 fire behavior, meaning a moderately vigorous surface fire.

Temperatures are forecasted to rise with increased fire behavior anticipated this afternoon.

We are responding to this incident with wildfire crews, aerial resources and structure protection units.

Accessing this fire has been challenging due to the terrain and multiple bridge washouts from previous flooding, priorities are securing Highway 5 and the protection of infrastructure in the area.

Highway 5 remains closed at this time, check Drive BC for the most up to date information regarding road closures.

Updates on this incident are available on the BC Wildfire Service Dashboard here: https://wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/incidents?fireYear=2025&incidentNumber=K61891&source=map
