𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 — a true legend whose love for horses was woven throughout his life and career.

Redford first got on a pony at age six, and as he described it, it was “instant love.” That bond with horses stayed with him forever.

Throughout his film career, horses featured prominently in several of his iconic movies, including The Electric Horseman, where he co-starred with his beloved horse Let’s Merge (Rising Star) — a horse he later purchased and who lived on his ranch for 18 years until his passing. He also starred alongside horses in Jeremiah Johnson and, of course, The Horse Whisperer, for which he worked closely with renowned horseman Buck Brannaman to prepare for the role and bring authenticity to the story.

Redford spoke movingly about the freedom he found riding on his ranch:
"I get on a horse and ride for three, four hours. Sometimes five. I get lost.”

Beyond his personal connection with horses, Redford was a passionate advocate for their welfare. He was against horse slaughter and supported the protection of wild horses in the American West, using his voice to promote humane treatment and conservation of these iconic animals.

His love of horses was more than a hobby — it was a lifelong passion that reflected his respect for nature, strength, and grace. We honor his memory and the legacy he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Robert Redford. Your spirit rides free.
