When Connections Matter More Than Merit
There is a growing concern in Canada that government contracts and major projects can sometimes be influenced by connections, favoritism, lobbying, and conflicts of interest rather than simply by qualifications, price, and the quality of the work.
For a new company or an individual trying to build a business from nothing, the system can feel almost impossible. You can have the skills, experience, insurance, equipment, and a strong proposal—but if you don’t have the right connections, getting that first major opportunity can seem like climbing a wall.
And when people believe that relationships, political influence, or money exchanged behind closed doors determine who gets contracts, public trust is damaged.
Canada needs a system where merit comes first, competition is transparent, conflicts of interest are investigated, and every qualified business has a fair opportunity—regardless of their background, accent, appearance, or who they know.
This isn’t about blaming an entire government or every Canadian company. It’s about demanding accountability wherever corruption, favoritism, or abuse of power actually exists.
Public money should serve the public—not a private network of insiders.
