We had the pleasure of sitting down with Jill Barron this morning to kick off day 3 of Horse Expo Canada and we must admit, when it comes to learning from Jill, we feel like we never have enough time! Jill is an incredibly accomplished horsewoman, a gifted teacher, and truly a class act. One key takeaway from Jill was this:

Your horse always has a say in the training process. It can also create more stress for horses if we don’t have a clear plan or know how to be the captain of the ship in the storm. By breaking things down into progressive steps and listening to the horse along the way, we can accomplish even the most challenging tasks (like cracking a bull whip on FIRE 🔥 - visit www.jillbarron.com for proof ❤️‍🔥).

Thank you for sharing your story and perspective with us, Jill. You have a knack for consistently leaving both horses and people a little better than you found them, and it inspires us to do the same.

What a night! The Elite Horsemanship Summit at Horse Expo Canada took place on Friday night and we are still soaking up all the insights and stories that were shared.

We’d like to say a big thank you to our panelists: Josh Nichol, Tik Maynard, Jonathan Field, and Warwick Schiller. While you all share a heart for connection and excellence with horses, it was fascinating to hear the nuances of your unique perspectives.

We walked away feeling more empowered to try things with our horses and find the middle ground where trust, empathy, and success are inextricably connected. We also had a good laugh over stories about everything from clicker training chickens 🐓 to advocating for one’s need to use the restroom. 😂 All in all, it was a night to remember and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who came.

📸 Also, big thanks to for capturing these moments!

Meet your hosts of the Horseman’s Hot Seat! 🔥

Elisha Bradburn has been a horse enthusiast as long as she can remember and grew up with horses. Her mom, Heidi, bred and raised warmblood performance horses, and Thorougbred race horses for the track and Elisha was her mom’s right hand in this endeavour. Elisha never gave up her love of horses her mom planted early on, and has ridden several disciplines over her lifetime. Elisha most enjoys the Californio style Bridle horse progression of taking a horse from a hackamore, to the 2 rein outfit, and finally straight up in the bridle. She has 3 horses of her own and couldn’t imagine a life without horses.

Kylie Bartel is a horsewoman and certified mental health counsellor who helps riders develop more insight, enjoyment, and success with their horses. Kylie grew up trail riding and competed throughout her younger years in eventing, dressage, and hunter/jumpers. After high school, she worked extensively with at-risk youth doing equine and wilderness therapy. In 2019, Kylie spent a year studying relational horsemanship intensively and discovered the bridle horse progression with its application to cattle work. During that time, Kylie was struck by how many parallels there are between great horsemanship and great relationships.

Kylie and Elisha will be back hosting the Horseman’s Hot Seat this year at from April 24-26, 2026 in Red Deer, AB! 🇨🇦 We hope to see you there! 👋🏼

The Horseman’s Hot Seat got its start in 2023 at Horse Expo Canada, which is held annually in Red Deer, Alberta on the last weekend in April. The hosts of the hot seat, Kylie Bartel and Elisha Bradburn, have meaningful conversational style interviews on the main stage with the amazing talent that has gathered to present at Horse Expo Canada.

The goal is to shine a light on these professionals in the horse world and dive deeper into the stories that led them the position they are in today. We explore what makes them successful, what horses have taught them about themselves, and we give you a chance to see the more personal side of the professional. It is always a rich time of sharing, with some gold nuggets of wisdom for those in attendance to take away.

We hope to see you this year in Red Deer for the Horseman’s Hot Seat at !

We are thrilled to be launching a brand new feature at Horse Expo Canada this year: the Elite Horsemanship Summit!

Join us for a panel discussion with Warwick Schiller, Jonathan Field, Tik Maynard, and Josh Nichol—hosted by Kylie Bartel and Elisha Bradburn—on the main stage, Friday, April 24th from 4:30–6:30 PM.

We’ll be diving into a question every horse person faces:

How do we balance getting results with doing right by the horse?

Connection and relationship vs. obedience and control—where do we start, and how do we balance those vales?

The Summit is included with your Friday pass (seating is first come, first served - visit horseexpo.ca for tickets).

See you in Red Deer for an evening of dynamic dialogue and great collaboration!
