Hey y’all!
Hope winter’s been kind and gentle to everyone.
We’re closing in on the April 1 opener for select Alberta streams, so here’s a quick update on both the rivers and StreamSight.

StreamSight – Season 2
We’re excited to kick off our second season!
• Improved mobile experience
• River page content now organized into tabs (less wordy, easier navigation)
• Cameras resume updates March 29 for early openers + Lower Red Deer
• Remaining systems fire up June 1

River Conditions (Right Now)
N.Sask (Rocky) : Very Frozen but shifting
Clearwater (Ricinus): Some open water
Clearwater (Hwy 22 & below): Bank-to-bank ice
Raven & Stauffer: Frozen
Red Deer River (above the dam): Still locked up (checked at Garrington & Coal Camp)
Lower Red Deer: Open to RR20
Reminder: This stretch remains closed until May 15.
Still lots of time before April — we’ll see what Mother Nature gives us.

In the meantime:
Finish those house chores
Tie a few more bugs
Get ready… great days are coming!!

Visibility: ~4 ft
Flows: Manageable
Fishing: 🔥 Active – hoppers, ants, beetles producing; streamers also moving fish
Wildlife: 🐎 Wild horses, 🐏 bighorn sheep spotted
Traffic: Moderate

Notes:

Water clarity holding well despite recent rains.

Fish eager on surface patterns typical for late summer.

Streamers were getting solid looks in deeper runs.

📍 North Ram River

Visibility: 3ft

Grazing Lease Corner – slightly off

Trunk Road – near perfect clarity
Flows: Higher than normal – caution on crossings
Fishing: 🐟 Active but selective – stones, drakes, PMDs present
Road: N. Ram River road in decent shape; gravel hazards present
Traffic: Normal day tripper presence

Notes:

Fish were looking up but picky; perfect drift + smaller fly size often required.

Good bug activity throughout the day.

Small cars not recommended. There is some aggressive
Washboard, the length of the FTR and N.Fork Road

💡 StreamSight Tip:

Both rivers are worth the trip right now — South Ram offers easier wading and more aggressive fish, while the North Ram rewards technical dry fly presentations. With wildlife sightings high, keep the camera ready.

Blackstone and Ram Systems Updates

🌧️ West Country Update – July 19
Traveled out west yesterday with my trusty helper, chasing water and weather. We hit heavy downpours rolling in from the West Country, and it definitely left a mark on the Blackstone. Flows were up and the water was stained — but not blown out.

💧 South Ram – Unfazed by the storm and looking fantastic. The fish were fired up and willing to chase just about anything.
💧 North Ram – Also in great shape. Flows are elevated, but clarity is excellent, especially the farther upstream you go. Even below the grazing reserve, the action was solid. Big dries were the ticket — everything got at least a look, if not a full-on take.

🛻 Passed a number of other systems along the way and they all looked healthy. Once this rain clears, grab a rod, take a drive, and soak up the beauty this province has to offer!!
