This longtime neighbourhood Italian restaurant has been serving the community for over 50 years. For our first taste of Paisano’s, we tried the pear and beet goat cheese salad, seafood pasta with shrimp, prosciutto pizza with arugula and balsamic glaze, Trout served with steamed vegetables, and crispy egg rolls filled with mashed potato. We finished with banana cheesecake and an exceptional tiramisu.

From Italian pizza and seafood pasta to classic Italian entrees, salads and desserts, Paisano’s remains part of the longtime food culture of Willowdale and North York.

The Venetian Spritz has a history far older than the modern Aperol Spritz trend. The iconic Italian cocktail traces its roots to 19th century Veneto, when Austrian soldiers reportedly asked for a “splash” of water “spritzen” in German to dilute local Italian w**e. Over time, the drink evolved into a Venetian aperitivo made with sparkling w**e, soda and bitter liqueurs such as Select, Aperol or Campari. Aperol itself was created in Padua in 1919, and by the 1950s Aperol, Prosecco and soda had become the combination recognized today as the Aperol Spritz. From Venetian bacari and cicchetti to cocktail bars around the world, the humble Veneto spritz has become one of Italy’s most recognizable drinks and the global spritz market continues to grow.

Footage from approximately 2:00PM Sunday shows two opposing demonstrations taking place across from one another at Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West in North York. One group appeared to be demonstrating in support of Palestine, while across the street, demonstrators supporting Israel and Reza Pahlavi were visible, including members of the Iranian diaspora. Toronto Police Service officers were also present at the intersection. Bathurst and Sheppard has been the site of recurring opposing demonstrations, with Toronto Police previously responding to incidents at the intersection.

The descriptions in this post reflect what was visible in the footage and do not independently verify the affiliations or views of individual attendees.
