Issued at 2025-07-16 3:47PM ADT by Environment Canada:
Heat warning - continued for:
New Brunswick, N.B. (015000-016000-017000)

Current details:
An extended period of hot and humid weather is expected.

Time span: continuing through Thursday.

Maximum daytime temperatures: 30 to 33 degrees Celsius (Humidex near 40), except cooler along parts of the coast.

Minimum overnight temperatures: 20 to 23 degrees Celsius, except cooler near the Fundy coast.

Location: New Brunswick.

Remarks: A hot and humid airmass will persist over the region through Thursday. Conditions are expected to improve on Friday.

Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness. Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day.

Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 9-1-1 or your emergency health provider if you, or someone around you, is showing signs of heat stroke which can include red and hot skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion and change in consciousness. While you wait for medical attention, try to cool the person by moving them to a cool place, removing extra clothing, applying cold water or ice packs around the body.

Drink water often and before you feel thirsty to replace fluids.

Close blinds, or shades and open windows if outside is cooler than inside.

Turn on air conditioning, use a fan, or move to a cooler area of your living space. If your living space is hot, move to a cool public space such as a cooling centre, community centre, library or shaded park.

Follow the advice of your region’s public health authority.

Plan and schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.

Limit direct exposure to the sun and heat. Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.

Never leave people, especially children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Check the vehicle before locking to make sure no one is left behind.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Current Conditions – Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), New Brunswick
Issued: 2:50 PM ADT | 1750Z

As we progress through the afternoon hours, conditions remain hot, humid, and hazy across the region. The temperature now sits at 31°C under mostly sunny skies with widespread wildfire smoke aloft. A dew point of 20°C is driving the Humidex to 39°C, making it feel significantly warmer than the actual air temperature. This places the region within the upper end of the moderate heat stress category, approaching thresholds that warrant increased caution.

Winds are light, offering minimal ventilation. The combination of high humidity and degraded air quality from smoke is creating muggy and slightly oppressive conditions, especially for those outdoors for extended periods.

Current readings remain at heat warning criteria, the cumulative impact of heat, humidity, and poor air quality can elevate the risk of heat-related illness and respiratory discomfort, particularly during physical activity or prolonged exposure.

Residents are strongly advised to take standard heat safety precautions: stay hydrated, minimize exertion during peak afternoon hours, and seek shaded or air-conditioned environments whenever possible. Individuals with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory sensitivities should closely monitor air quality and limit outdoor exposure as conditions warrant.

Current Conditions – Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), New Brunswick
Issued: 12:20 PM ADT | 1520Z

As we enter the early afternoon, conditions across the region remain hot, humid, and hazy. The temperature is currently 28°C under mostly sunny and smoky skies. With a dew point of 21°C, the Humidex has climbed to 36°C, making it feel considerably warmer than the actual air temperature and placing the region in the moderate heat stress category.

Light winds are providing minimal ventilation, and the presence of elevated humidity and drifting wildfire smoke is contributing to muggy and somewhat oppressive conditions. Air quality may also be reduced in some areas.

Although temperatures remain below extreme thresholds, this combination of heat, humidity, and smoke may lead to increased heat stress, especially for those engaged in outdoor labour or physical activity.

Residents are strongly encouraged to take heat safety precautions—stay hydrated, minimize exertion during peak heating hours, and take regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces. Those with respiratory sensitivities should also monitor local air quality and limit smoke exposure as needed.

There is a high probability that smoke from wildfires in Western Canada will impact the air quality in certain regions of New Brunswick this week. A heat alert is also in place, which can make the effects of smoke worse, especially for vulnerable people.

· Be aware of your symptoms
· Reduce levels of physical activity as necessary
· Limit time spent outdoors
· Keep windows closed and turn air exchangers off
