Hey folks, let our suspensions rejoice, the City of St. Thomas and CN Rail are working on the rail crossing at Talbot and First TOMORROW!

From the city: First Avenue Railway Crossing Repairs Scheduled for Wednesday, July 23

The City of St. Thomas is pleased to share that long-awaited repairs to the railway crossing on First Avenue are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 23.

This update follows ongoing public concern about the condition of the crossing and a recent letter from Mayor Joe Preston, which clarified the shared responsibilities between CN Rail and the City. In recent days, CN Rail has taken important steps to move the project forward, and the City is grateful for their coordination and support.
What to Expect:

Traffic control will be in place starting at 7:00 a.m.

First Avenue will remain open, but lane closures will be in effect throughout the day.

The work is expected to be completed by end of day Wednesday, weather permitting.

The City thanks residents for their continued engagement, patience, and understanding as we work together with CN Rail to address infrastructure that matters to our community.

Proposed Naming of Pinafore Park Pickleball Courts

ST. THOMAS, ONTARIO – The City of St. Thomas is inviting members of the community to provide feedback on a proposal to rename the pickleball courts at Pinafore Park in honour of the late Dave Hall.

The request, submitted by the St. Thomas Pickleball Club, proposes the name “Dave Hall Pickleball Courts” to recognize Mr. Hall’s significant contributions to the growth and development of the sport in St. Thomas and beyond.

Hey Folks, big news for Hospice of Elgin today!

Historic $3.5 Million Donation to Hospice of Elgin

Hospice of Elgin is honoured to announce a historic $3.5 million donation from the Estate of Marianne Barrie—one of the largest charitable gifts ever made in Elgin County.

In recognition of this transformational legacy, the newly named Barrie Family, Hospice of Elgin will open its doors this summer, providing compassionate, end-of-life care to individuals and families across the region.

Marianne Barrie, who passed away in 2017, was a trailblazing lawyer and a quiet but powerful force for good in her community. Raised in Elgin County and the daughter of former St. Thomas Mayor Vince Barrie, Marianne was deeply dedicated to family and philanthropy. Her generous spirit continues to inspire, and her gift will leave a lasting mark on health care in the region.

“Marianne had such a generous heart,” said Bill Graham, Executor of the Barrie Estate. “As I learned more about the impact Hospice of Elgin would have, I knew this was the perfect way to reflect the Barrie family’s values. This donation is about honouring Marianne’s deep care for the community she loved.”

“This is a once-in-a-generation gift,” said Robert Furneaux, Chair of the Hospice of Elgin Board. “Thanks to the generosity of Marianne Barrie, generations of Elgin County families will have access to exceptional care at one of life’s most vulnerable times.”

The Barrie Family, Hospice of Elgin, will provide free, wraparound services in a welcoming, cottage-like setting for individuals nearing the end of life. Care will also extend into the community through clinical services, respite care, counselling, and support for caregivers.
