Pow Wow time! 🏵️

Poster I made for Pleasant Hill Community Association. (Reminder that I am available for commissions of any and all graphic design!)

For the past 20 years the community of Pleasant Hill and their annual Pow Wow has been a beacon for Indigenous culture, providing a space to celebrate and embrace heritage. Having been raised in Pleasant Hill, I am happy to be a part of this strong and proud community! Everyone, Astum! Please come out and celebrate the people and culture of this land with me this Friday!

Fresh design time! 🌸

Featuring colourful florals, I took inspiration from my ancestor’s beadwork when creating this piece.

Collaborating together, Kids Physio Group (KPG) and I endeavored to create a design that would reflect the work done by KPG, while also acknowledging Indigenous culture in Saskatchewan. Upon inspection, children can be seen as budding flowers, blooming from the vine and stems that surround “Kids Physio Group”. This signifies the preciousness of those future generations, the work done by KPG and how it allows these beautiful flowering children to grow through a nurturing hand.

Thunderbird Garden

Thunderbird Garden is an expression of heritage, history and future. As a force of nature, the Thunderbird acts as both creator and destroyer. The chaos of raging storms and booming thunder provides Mother Earth with the means to change, create and become new. Old growth can be washed away, allowing new life to spring forth. This gift is powerful and can be reflected by Saskatchewan's own motto: Land of the Living Skies. Change and growth are important not only for our survival as shepherds of this Earth, but for the planet itself. Thunderbird Garden is an attempt at capturing the beauty of new beginnings and how life can carry on even through the darkest storms.

"Connections"
I envision this design sparking curiosity; inviting viewers to trace a path through the florals much like our lives, which follow their own trajectory while also remaining connected to a larger community. The florals and leaves represent us as people on our journey as we experience trauma and pain, and the growth that follows with resilience and nurturing care.

This canvas print is 20"x40" and is available for purchase. Please contact me for pricing and more prints!

Made this one for Decolonial Clothing! Always a pleasure collaborating. I'm always reminded that this is more than a clothing brand: it's a movement, it's reclamation, it's LAND BACK 💪🏾

Dreams hold an important place within Indigenous ways of knowing and spirituality. A teaching shared with me holds our dreams as a window into the spirit world; a look into ethereal and beyond our understanding of the physical. As beings gifted life into the physical world, we are connected and bound to that which lies beyond our five senses and our dreams are one way in which we can understand our thread in the great tapestry of existence.

Dtebashkine Bawaajige means Keepers of the Sacred Dream in Ojibwe, and is the name given to a group of child service workers in Toronto. This team understands that while working with and supporting Indigenous youth, it is important to follow and understand the medicine and teachings of our ancestors if we are to heal and move past trauma that burdens the lives of so many of our young generation.

I am grateful to have played a small part in recognizing and acknowledging the significance of this important work. Designing this piece has allowed me to express my understanding of the knowledge shared with me: through the use of imagery such as a family and community of wolves, to a design shaped as a dreamcatcher, the significance of grandmother moon and the connection we share with nature and the land itself.

Some designs I've done for the University of Saskatchewan!

This art is inspired by childhood memories and family visits: As a child I would watch my kokums and aunties create beautiful beadwork with skills passed down from one generation to the next. These florals and designs can be found everywhere from clothing and regalia, to accessories and now even digitally. I'm happy and proud to share these designs with Shop USask, and to continue in the steps of my ancestors.

Opâskahopîsim is here! Today marks the first day of the Egg Hatching Moon, otherwise known as June.
This month is recognized as National Indigenous History Month. The history of Indigenous people is a story of land stewardship, of survival, of oppression and one of perseverance. Take time to reflect on the history of Turtle Island, to listen and to share in the stories of the First People who have inhabited our land.
Be proud of that story! Be grateful that it is not lost. Let the injustices of the past ignite in us a fire of burning action; to stand strong and tall against those seeking to erase it. We are still here, rooted deeper than any tide of colonialism and oppression can wash away. We are still here, and here we will remain.
