Canada - World Championships of Performing Arts This is the page for the World Championships of Performing Arts Team Canada WHAT IS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS (WCOPA)?

Cited as the one-and-only “Talent Olympics,” the World Championships of Performing Arts was launched in 1997 by Founder and CEO, Griff O’Neil, a previous executive with Miss Universe Inc. And now thousands of aspiring artists from over 50 countries vie for a coveted invitation to compete at the annual global event for “the gold,” $500,000 in scholarships from multiple establishments like the famed

New York Conservatory for Film and Television. Each year, hundreds from the entertainment industry (i.e. agents, managers, casting directors, producers, music industry reps) are invited to judge, conduct educational seminars and cast during the jam-packed, eight-day world meet.

Monday, September 30, 2024

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, all of us at WCOPA Canada want to share a message with you. Today, we remember and learn about the history of Indigenous communities in Canada, especially the hardships many families faced due to residential schools.

This day is so important because it helps us understand the past and reminds us to respect Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions. We want to honour your strength and the way you’ve stayed connected to your roots, even through challenges.

This year, we’re especially proud to celebrate the 7 Indigenous delegates who joined Team Canada 2024 at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Long Beach, California, U.S.A. last July—a truly historic occasion. These talented individuals not only represented their communities well but also took home medals and awards for their incredible performances. Some of them have been actually noticed by Hollywood professionals and have already signed up for management offers from them. They’re flying back to California soon. They’ve shown the world just how vibrant and talented Indigenous communities are, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements!

Today is a special day. We know that today’s national celebration isn’t enough to fix everything, but it’s a step toward making things right. Together, we can work for a future where your voices are always heard, and your communities are respected and celebrated.

We stand with you today and every day as we move forward on this journey of healing.

With respect and solidarity,
WCOPA Canada

No one can put me down, especially when it comes to my love for the performing arts. No one! I have invested so much time, effort, and money in this advocacy of mine, even with an ROI that's as uncertain as a foggy night's drive. Whether it be for pianists for the Canadian Piano Society that I founded nine years ago or for singers, dancers, actors, models, instrumentalists and variety artists for the World Championships of Performing Arts of which I've been National Director for Canada for seven years now, or for The Aquatones for whom I had been director and manager in the United Arab Emirates several decades ago, or for the numerous live bands, dancers, and DJs I employed as owner of the legendary Klub 88 in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, for five years starting in 2008, I will not stop working for the dopamine that's being released into the bloodstreams of performing artists whenever they're on stage. I'm supposed to be retired already, but I will not retire, I will not stop, even if there are people putting me down, until I can get as many people on stage as I can before I finally leave this earth.

This is my first rant on Facebook. My apologies.

Alright, imagine you're playing a video game, and you keep facing a really tough level. You try jumping over the same obstacle, fighting the same monster, or using the same moves again and again, but you keep losing. You might feel like it's impossible and want to keep trying the same thing, hoping it will work this time. But that's not always the best way.

Sometimes, you need to try something new. Maybe you need to find a secret path, use a different weapon, or learn a new skill. If you keep doing the same thing, you'll keep getting the same result, right? So, you need to change what you're doing.

It's the same in real life. Sometimes we face problems that seem impossible. We try really hard, but nothing changes. That's when we need to step back and think about what we can do differently. Maybe we need to ask for help, learn something new, or change how we look at the problem.

Even if it's really hard, we should be brave and try new things. If we keep doing the same things, our lives will stay the same. But if we make changes, we can make our lives better. So, don't be afraid to try a new path. You might find it's the key to the next level!
