I love this photo.
The composition.
The people.
The moment.

But what it reminds me of is heavy.
The day after I took this picture, we were admitted to the intensive care unit — and we didn’t leave for a week.

Juno had brain surgery.
Too much pressure had built up in his brain due to the abnormal growth of his ventricles.

We knew this was coming. Many babies with the same syndrome need a shunt before they turn one.

He had been slowing down, more tired. He must have had constant headaches.

As parents, we were so stressed — but we knew it was the right thing to do.
As a mother, you’re wired to protect your baby from deep within your bones.

Letting the medical team make decisions and operate on your child’s brain doesn’t come naturally.

I had to trust the process. But the inner conflict with my core values was real. I deeply believe the human body can heal itself in many ways. But not this time.

Once again, we needed help — and thankfully, we accepted it.

Life is so fragile.

Today, Juno is doing great. đź’›

Fresh photo shoot at .ravito !

They’re celebrating the opening of their self-serve kiosk—just in time to mark four years of organic farming, and my sister’s 30th birthday! She and her partner Jimmy are at the head of this inspiring project, and I can’t express how proud I am of their mission.

It takes real courage and determination to start and sustain an organic farm today. They rise with the sun and work until twilight, day after day, to grow and offer a wide variety of organic vegetables, herbs, and fruits to local restaurants and to their community in Sainte-Flavie—the gateway to Gaspésie.

If you’re passing by, please stop and support them. This is where I grew up (my parents are their neighbors!), and I can tell you: the quality of their produce is absolutely mind-blowing.

We need more farms like this—but unfortunately, too many stop because of burnout and financial pressure. Just one storm can wipe out a greenhouse and an entire season’s profits. One power outage or pest invasion can severely impact production. There’s no unemployment safety net in winter, and instead of resting and recharging for the next season, they have to hustle to keep things going.

They can’t yet afford employees, so volunteers are always deeply appreciated. If you know a farm nearby and want a great outdoor workout—reach out and offer a hand!

Let’s help keep this essential mission alive: growing food that is healthy for both people and the environment. On the consumer side, this means nourishing ourselves with the seasons and staying curious about what our local lands have to offer.

A letter (and a collage) to you — the father of my son, and to fatherhood itself 🌸

I see courage in you when you show your vulnerabilities to your child.
I see strength when you teach softness and calm.
I see a deep sense of responsibility when you share the mental load of motherhood.
I see compassion in the way your presence soothes a tired mother.
I see wisdom in what you choose to model and teach.
I see determination when you show up for us, time and time again.
I see your truth when you prioritize us in front of everything else.
I see you blooming, becoming, evolving — as a man, as a father, as a human being.
I see half of you in our child — and all the love that shaped him.

I was scared to be a mom — but not your mom. We were meant to travel this life together, on the unbeaten path.

It hasn’t always been easy, navigating all the storms — but we did it. For you, and because of you, I became stronger.

Lately, life feels smoother. We laugh, we dance, and we love each other so deeply. I believe it’s healing everything.

Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for transforming me.

I am so grateful to be your mom. I love you so deeply, my son.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms out there. And to those carrying many roles for their children—the advocate, the caregiver, the warrior—sending you extra love and deep gratitude today. I see you, I feel you 🫶🏼

January Gratitude drop 🫳🏼

This month, we’re grateful for:
~ Seeing winter through the curious eyes of our little one
~ Cross-country ski loops to unwind after busy days
~ Time spent at our cottage by the lake / in Quebec close to our families
~ The accessibility of health care in Canada
~ Quiet walks and runs during stroller naps
~ Staying warm in the cold with jackets
~ Fresh tracks in the backyard on our pow surfs

It may not be the grandeur of the Rockies or the surf near our home in Nova Scotia, but having the privilege to dip into nature every single day is something we don’t take for granted in this world we live in.

My baby boy, every day you show us just how resilient you are.

Your first months on earth have come with their challenges—multiple hospital stays, tests on your tiny body, and most recently, a shunt to drain cerebrospinal fluid from your brain to your abdomen.

You have a rare condition—affecting less than 1 in a million—caused by a mutation in the PIK3CA gene that occurred early in your development. This condition, known as PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS), includes a range of clinical features, like segmental overgrowth, tumors, and malformations. In your case, it causes overgrowth of your entire body, and more specifically, your brain.

I’ve often asked myself why this is happening to us, but those thoughts have pulled me into a negative spiral and stolen precious moments with you.

It’s hard not to worry about the health and developmental issues that may come with this syndrome—it tortures me inside sometimes. But when I look at you and see your smile, as if you’re saying, “Mama, it’s going to be okay,” it gives me the strength to face what’s ahead. And I believe you, because you’ve already overcome so much.

Being different isn’t always easy in this world, but we’re here to nurture your confidence. We won’t let a diagnosis define who you are.

You’ve already taught us so much about what truly matters in life. Together, we’ll rise above every storm and embrace every moment ahead. I love you Juno.
