The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has seized a firearm and arrested two people in St. Johnโ€™s.

The RNC Weapons and Drugs Enforcement Unit (WDEU), with the assistance of the Tactics and Rescue Unit supported by the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Operational Patrol Services, Criminal Investigation Division, and Police Dog Services, executed a warrant at a home on Hatcher Street today.

Police say schools in the area were notified of the planned operation, and a shelter-in-place directive was issued for Hatcher Street and the section of University Avenue between Hatcher and Paton Streets. The shelter-in-place was lifted just after 12:00 p.m.

As a result of the operation, 10 people exited the property; two of whom were wanted on outstanding warrants. A search of the residence led to the seizure of a small quantity of pills, drug paraphernalia including scales, and an imitation handgun. Police also deployed tear gas inside the home

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

The RNC WDEU is dedicated to the removal of illegal weapons and drugs from our communities. The RNC continues to encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it directly to police by calling 709-729-8000. Crimes in progress should be reported by contacting 911.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is reminding the public to slow down in construction zones following infractions in the Corner Brook region.

The RNC has increased patrols to coincide with a construction zone on the Trans-Canada Highway between Corner Brook and the Humber Valley Resort. Multiple tickets have been issued to drivers for speeding, and passing in a no-passing zone.

RNC Traffic Services and Operational Patrol Services will continue to monitor traffic activity in construction zones across all RNC jurisdictions as the season progresses. With fines doubled in construction zones, the expense to operators range from $130 to $1,170.

A construction zone is a workplace, and the safety of site staff, including heavy equipment operators, contractors and flag persons, requires all motor vehicle operators to adjust their driving behaviours. From the moment you observe signage connected to a construction zone, heightened vigilance is necessary. Reduce your speed, be patient, and be courteous to site operations and other motorists.

The RNC continues to urge the public to report unsafe driving behaviours directly to police by calling 911.

RCMP officers in Roddickton arrested a 64-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon after responding to a call about a possible drug-impaired driver.

On June 13, shortly after 2:00 p.m., Roddickton RCMP responded to a report of a driver that appeared to be using cannabis inside a vehicle parked outside a building on Majors Street. Police located the vehicle and observed signs of cannabis use, and the driver โ€” a 64-year-old woman โ€” was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle located paraphernalia consistent with cannabis use.

The woman was provided with a demand for a blood sample to confirm impairment by drugs, and declined to do so. She was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, and released from custody to appear in court in August 2026. In addition, her driverโ€™s licence was suspended.

A 30-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly threatening another man and damaging a vehicle before being arrested by police Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began at about 2 p.m. on June 17 when RNC officers responded to an assistance call in the parking lot of police headquarters.

Police say their investigation determined that a man had driven to the police station seeking assistance after a passenger in his vehicle allegedly threatened him and caused damage to the vehicle before leaving the area.

Officers continued their investigation and, approximately three hours later, located the suspect during routine patrols on Freshwater Road.

The man was arrested and taken to the St. John's lockup.

He has been charged with uttering threats and property damage.
