Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services announced today that the Come By Chance District Office clinic will be moving to a new location at 6 Whiffen Head Road in Arnoldโ€™s Cove. The relocation is set for August 24, 2026.

The new facility, to be known as Community Services Arnoldโ€™s Cove, will continue to offer public health, community supports, and primary health services. A key feature of the new clinic is its design, which prioritizes accessibility to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patients and clients.

Clinic hours will remain consistent with the previous location, operating Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patients with scheduled appointments will be directly contacted and reminded of the new address. Harbour Grace RCMP arrested a 60-year-old man for impaired operation after he was stopped on his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) Thursday night.

Police say shortly before 10:30 p.m. on August 20, officers patrolling Kellyโ€™s Road in Harbour Grace observed an ATV travelling the roadway without its lights on. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver โ€” a 60-year-old Blaketown man โ€” showed signs of impairment.

The man was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the detachment, where he provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit.

He was later released from custody, and will appear in provincial court in October 2026. In addition, his driverโ€™s licence was suspended, and his ATV was seized and impounded by police.

St. Anthony RCMP arrested a 43-year-old man after responding to a disturbance at a local hotel Thursday morning.

At approximately 9:40 a.m. on August 20, police were called to a hotel in St. Anthony where a patron was causing a disturbance. The man was a guest of the hotel and pulled the facilityโ€™s fire alarm during an argument with staff.

When officers arrived, the man failed to comply with police commands. He was taken into custody following a brief foot chase and transported to the St. Anthony RCMP detachment.

He was later released on strict police-imposed conditions, and is expected appear in provincial court on November 24, 2026, to answer to Criminal Code charges of resisting arrest and pulling a false fire alarm.

Bay St. George RCMP charged a 29-year-old motorist under the Highway Traffic Act and seized a vehicle following a hit and run collision in Stephenville early Thursday evening.

At about 5:00 p.m. on August 20, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a hit and run collision on Main Street in Stephenville. Police attended the scene and learned that a passenger car struck and damaged another vehicle and failed to remain at the scene. No injuries were reported to police.

Officers located the described suspect vehicle, and further investigation revealed that the driver, a 29-year-old Lourdes woman, was operating without proper insurance.

She was ticketed for operating a vehicle without insurance and her vehicle was seized and impounded.

Bay St. George RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services are investigating a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway that resulted in the death of one individual on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on August 20, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Flat Bay. RCMP Traffic Services West, St. Georgeโ€™s Fire Department, the provincial Department of Highways and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the scene.

An 80-year-old American woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second occupant of her vehicle โ€” a 79-year-old man โ€” was transported to hospital in Corner Brook for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to hospital for treatment of injuries that are believed to be minor in nature.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended to support the investigation, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
