The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is reminding the public to slow down in construction zones following infractions in the Corner Brook region.
The RNC has increased patrols to coincide with a construction zone on the Trans-Canada Highway between Corner Brook and the Humber Valley Resort. Multiple tickets have been issued to drivers for speeding, and passing in a no-passing zone.
RNC Traffic Services and Operational Patrol Services will continue to monitor traffic activity in construction zones across all RNC jurisdictions as the season progresses. With fines doubled in construction zones, the expense to operators range from $130 to $1,170.
A construction zone is a workplace, and the safety of site staff, including heavy equipment operators, contractors and flag persons, requires all motor vehicle operators to adjust their driving behaviours. From the moment you observe signage connected to a construction zone, heightened vigilance is necessary. Reduce your speed, be patient, and be courteous to site operations and other motorists.
The RNC continues to urge the public to report unsafe driving behaviours directly to police by calling 911.
