Surrey Crime Stats Show Rise in Violent Crime...

New Surrey Police Service data shows violent crime increased during the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period last year.

From January to July, Surrey recorded 13 homicides, up from five in 2025, while crimes against people rose 23%, including increases in assaults, robberies, s*x crimes and extortion.

Property crime also increased 6%, while mental health-related police files jumped 44%. However, traffic deaths fell from 13 to six.

Peace Arch to Host 25th Annual 9/11 Memorial...

More than 400 people from Canada and the U.S. are expected at Peace Arch Park on September 11 for a cross-border ceremony marking 25 years since the 9/11 attacks.

The gathering will honour those who died and those who served, bringing together first responders, military members, border officers and the public. Four New York City first responders who served on 9/11 will also attend.

The ceremony will feature both national anthems and a helicopter flypast, followed by a community barbecue.

Surrey Police Reach New Four-Year Labour Deal...

The Surrey Police Board and Surrey Police Union have reached a new four-year agreement covering officers from 2025 through 2028.

The contract includes wage increases designed to keep SPS competitive with other municipal police departments, including 4.25% in 2027 and 4% in 2028.

The agreement will cost an additional $14.3 million, which the city says is already accounted for in its operating budget.

Surrey Opens First City-Supported Family Doctor Clinic...

The first of 10 planned primary care clinics is now open in Whalley, part of a City of Surrey plan to attract more family doctors and improve access to care.

The city will cover about $100,000 per year in lease and facility costs for each clinic. Each location is expected to have 10 doctors, with each caring for at least 1,250 patients.

A second clinic is expected to open in Newton within the next month.

New $250M Auto Mall Coming to Newton...

A new 16-acre auto mall is coming to 13340 76 Avenue in Newton, with Surrey Honda and Mercedes-Benz Surrey among the first dealerships confirmed.

Called Surrey Auto Loop, the nearly $250-million development is expected to include at least seven dealerships, 1,000 parking spaces and nearly 166,000 sq. ft. of commercial space. It will feature showrooms, service centres, offices and food options.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the full auto mall planned to open by 2028. The project could create up to 500 permanent jobs.

Construction has started on Acorn Park in South Newton, the first of three new neighbourhood parks planned for Newton and Guildford.

The parks will add playgrounds, sports courts, walking paths, dog areas and gathering spaces as Surrey continues to grow.

With students heading back to class, Surrey Schools and Fraser Health are reminding families to prepare with healthy sleep, good nutrition, mental health support and illness prevention.

Parents are also encouraged to check vaccination records, keep children home when sick and practice regular handwashing.

Surrey Wins Two International Economic Development Awards...
