𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫

Cape Breton Regional Police were called to a report of a missing child with autism in New Waterford Saturday afternoon.

The mother noticed the child escaped through a kitchen window.

Shortly after 2 p.m. police located the body of the child in the water near a cliff.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene including the police dive unit, fire rescue and EHS.

Police say the child did not survive.

Cape Breton Regional Police say the matter remains under investigation.

16:28: Emergency crews are currently on scene of an out-of-control forest fire in the Grand Lake Road area, specifically off Kytes Hill Drive, within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

Air support is actively responding. As of now, there are no reported evacuations. Residents in the affected area should to adhere to any instructions provided by emergency services and monitor official agency communications for potential future updates and guidance.

Fire departments assisting include Grand Lake Road, New Victoria, New Waterford & North Sydney.

Avoid the area.
