There's a new kind of Persian dining that Thunder Bay locals have welcomed, and you won't find any pink icing here.

In the heart of the Waterfront District, Eldar Cafe (Eldartbay) sits on a sunny corner where Thunder Bay diners can finally treat themselves to a taste of Iran. Co-owned by Elham Vejdani and Darya Davoodvandi, Eldar Cafe opened this past summer, and while the café offers a variety of North American staples for breakfast and lunch, it's their Persian dishes that have stolen the show.

The new year came early for us!⭐️🥇

The Walleye's annual "Best of" list has it all: suspense, friendly rivalry, surprising upsets, and most importantly, heart-warming community pride and affection for all the local entrepreneurs, artists, and organizations that make TBay a great place to live. From the multi-way ties (Best soup! Best local athlete!) to the top new restaurants, events, and businesses that caught our city's attention in 2025, this issue is truly a celebration of professionalism and innovation. Congrats to all the winners and nominees...and be sure to check them out yourself in 2026.

When Kannan Ravisundar put down the scientific calculator, he picked up a camera. A decade ago, Ravisundar was a mechanical engineering student but decided he needed a different path, and a casual session with a friend's camera awakened his passion for photography. He began photographing events and planning his own shoots, eventually learning cinematography and securing set photographer gigs for Prime Video movies. (And yes, a Hollywood feature film is one of his dreams).

Read more about the work of Ravisundar a.k.a. on Instagram on page 50 of the December issue. Story by Bonnie Schiedel, photos by Kannan Ravisundar, link here: https://publuu.com/flip-book/1018163/2255740/page/50

"It's this small action, lighting a match, that could actually create a very specific memory," says photographer Connor Remus whose latest exhibition, entitled Struck, takes a closer at a collection of vintage matchboxes in a series of macrophotographs.

You may have caught Struck last month at Co. Lab Gallery + Arts Centre, but if you didn't make it, don't fret! Struck has moved to Mariner's Hall at Prince Arthur's Landing for a longer display.

When the Northern Lights play across the sky above Thunder Bay, the horizon becomes a stage for something bigger than any one person. For local photographer Kay Lee, those moments are both a muse and a mission, the spark behind the growing community known as the Thunder Bay Starchasers.

What started as a small, online group of enthusiasts has evolved into a lively community of over 5,500 members. Read more about the Thunder Bay Statchasers on page 54 of the December issue. Story by Laura Loan, photos by Kay Lee, link here: https://publuu.com/flip-book/1018163/2255740/page/54
