POLcast

POLcast POLcast is an award winning unique podcast in English about Poland and Poles around the world. Share! No politics and no Wikipedia-like facts.

POLcast is the first podcast of its kind in the world and is meeting with truly incredible interest everywhere we turn. It has been awarded five prestigious awards in Canada, Poland and Austria. Having worked in the media in Canada for many years, we felt that there is a need for a new one geared towards English-speaking second/third-generation emigrants, their partners, families, friends, co-work

ers, and anyone who has interest in Poland. And in 2016 we created our English-language podcast called POLcast, a colourful audio magazine delivered directly to your smartphone, computer or tablet. It has a website (mypolcast.com) which features multimedia stories accompanying all POLcast audio interviews. POLcast is created for listeners interested in all things Polish. Each episode introduces you to interesting people, stories, places, music, and much more. Poland is a fascinating country with rich and fascinating history, stunning landscapes, and, most of all, people who shine in many areas, contributing their own unique perspective to world’s art, culture, and science. Apart from Poland itself, there is also Polish diaspora – 20 million Poles living all over the world, doing exciting things and creating fascinating links with Poland. And there are also non-Poles and their often amazing connections to Poland. POLcast makes all these exciting faces of Poland and Poles around the world accessible to those who are interested in Poland, but do not speak Polish. Its unique and exciting content will broaden your perspective and enrich your relationships with your Polish colleagues, clients, partners and family members. So many Poles who have listened to POLcast said: I had no idea! POLcast can be used for fun, as an educational tool (in schools, universities), to promote Poland as a fascinating tourist or business destination, to familiarize newcomers and business people with Poland, to share with non-Polish family members, etc.

What a story!

May 1, 1908: Krystyna Skarbek was born in Warsaw. Krystyna served in Poland, Hungary, the Middle East, and France during WWII as an intelligence operative for the Western Allies. She distinguished herself in occupied France when she bluffed a Gestapo officer into sparing the lives of two fellow Special Operations Executive agents—claiming she was the niece of British General Bernard Montgomery.

Krystyna Skarbek ended the war with the George Medal, Order of the British Empire, Croix de guerre, and the rank of captain in the SOE. It is said that Ian Fleming was inspired by Krystyna Skarbek when creating the character Vesper Lynd for his first James Bond novel. She remains one of the most famous female spies of WWII.
