Home bias is a recognized global phenomenon where investors intentionally overweight domestic holdings at the expense of foreign securities. Recently, Dan shared on Blossom an excellent research from Vanguard Canada where it talks about the importance of global diversification as a crucial way for investors to reduce portfolio risk over time. The article uses minimum variance analysis to determine an optimal home bias allocation.

Based on its finding, "the optimal asset allocation for Canadian investors is a 30% allocation to Canadian equities and a 70% allocation to international equities because it has shown to minimize the long-term volatility of their portfolio". This is based on minimum variance analysis on historical data from January 1999 to June 2022

Wall Street sees the parent company of social media networks Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, earning $3.61 per share, surging 120% from EPS of $1.64 in the year-ago period.

If that is in fact reality, it would mark Meta’s most profitable quarter in two years, dating back to Q4 2021, as the Menlo Park, California-based tech company continues to focus on improving operating efficiency.

Meanwhile, revenue is forecast to rise 20.6% from the year-ago period to $33.4 billion, which if confirmed would mark the second highest quarterly sales total in the company’s history.

As such, I believe Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will provide solid guidance for the months ahead despite the challenging operating environment, as the social media company reaps the benefits of its expanding user base, fresh AI initiatives, and growing adoption of reels.

In recent weeks, the financial world has seen significant shifts. As of October 18, the U.S. dollar (USD), often viewed as a "flight to safety" asset, has experienced a noteworthy surge.

Factors contributing to this trend include the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, a challenging market atmosphere in September, and the looming cloud of uncertainty over the Federal Reserve's impending rate decisions.

Consequently, the USD dollar (USD) has risen noticeably against the Canadian dollar (CAD), with the current rate hovering around 1.37 USD/CAD.

Given this backdrop, Canadian investors might be pondering a crucial question: Is now the moment to transition to currency-hedged ETFs, anticipating a potential reversal in the current trend?
