Fasting in Shawwal – Carrying Ramadan Forward
Ramadan may have passed, but its impact doesn’t have to fade. One of the most beautiful ways to continue the momentum is by fasting six days in Shawwal.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if they fasted the entire year.” (Sahih Muslim)
This simple act carries immense reward and deep meaning.
Why it matters:
1. The reward is عظیم (immense)
Every good deed is multiplied tenfold:
• 30 days of Ramadan = 300
• 6 days of Shawwal = 60
Total = 360 days — like fasting a full year.
2. It preserves your Ramadan state
These fasts help maintain the discipline, patience, and closeness to Allah built during Ramadan.
3. A sign of sincerity and gratitude
Continuing to fast shows that our worship wasn’t limited to one month — but is part of a lifelong journey.
A few reminders:
• Fasting is not allowed on Eid (1st of Shawwal), but can be done any time after
• You can fast the six days consecutively or spread them out
• It’s الأفضل (better) to make up missed Ramadan fasts first, though some scholars allow flexibility
Final thought:
Ramadan was a beginning, not an end. These six days are a quiet way to stay connected and show Allah that our hearts are still حاضر (present).
May Allah accept from us and give us the strength to continue. Ameen 🤍✨
