THE MOMENT A WORK PERMIT EXPIRES, MOST PEOPLE PANIC.

They think:
"I have to stop working."
"I'm out of status."
"I need to leave Canada."

NONE OF THESE ARE AUTOMATICALLY TRUE.
IF YOU APPLIED TO RENEW BEFORE IT EXPIRED, THE LAW HAS YOU COVERED.

📌 IT'S CALLED IMPLIED STATUS.

HERE'S WHAT IT MEANS:
If you applied to extend your work permit before it expired, you are legally allowed to continue working under the same conditions as your previous permit while you wait for a decision.

THE KEY WORD IS BEFORE.

YOU MUST HAVE SUBMITTED YOUR RENEWAL APPLICATION BEFORE YOUR PERMIT EXPIRED.
If you missed that window, the implied status does not apply. THIS IS WHY TRACKING YOUR EXPIRY DATE IS NOT OPTIONAL.

HERE'S WHAT IMPLIED STATUS ALLOWS YOU TO DO:
Continue working for the same employer. Under the same conditions as your previous permit. Until a decision is made on your renewal.

HERE'S WHAT IT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO DO:
❌Change employers.
❌Change your job conditions.
❌Travel outside Canada and return.

SAME JOB, SAME CONDITIONS. UNTIL THE DECISION ARRIVES.

YOUR PERMIT EXPIRY DATE IS NOT A DEADLINE TO PANIC. You just need careful planning.
