I just moved back to Toronto, Canada after 2ish years of living abroad, and the question I’ve been asked most lately is what has surprised me the most.

THE PRICES! THE STICKER SHOCK! WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE?! 🫨

Food prices are out of control. The portion sizes are unnecessarily large for many people. It just all seems completely unsustainable in this cost of living crisis.

I knew it was going to be bad, but this bad?! My goodness! 🥴

I SAID YES ✨🥹

…to escaping burnout, regulating my nervous system, and designing a life that actually feels good TO ME.

Malaga, my love. Blue sky bae ☀️🌊🌴

I’ve always dreamed of living abroad for a year. It’s something that’s been on my bucket list forever, BUT it was never in the budget.

After being laid off in 2023 (right after I decided to sell my first home), all of the cards fell perfectly to make my dream of a (temporary) move abroad a reality.

That, paired with my long-term partner who I asked if he’d be down to move to Europe for a year and he simply replied “ok, sure!”?! A true match made in heaven 😭. I am so blessed. We love a man that’s down for anything.

Malaga taught me so much:
- How to integrate into new cultures
- How to find & build community
- How to overcome ego when learning a new language
- How to cook everyday (because the restaurant scene isn’t amazing, I’m so sorry lmao)
- How to continue to pour into existing relationships with friends and family back home while being 6000+km away

and SO much more.

I’m so grateful for everything that Malaga offered me during this incredible experience, and I hope to be back (for a much longer time) soon. The last picture in the slideshow shows my commitment to this intention 🙏🏾🤎

I hosted the second Black Women in Malaga, Spain meetup today 🇪🇸❤️

I created this community less than 2 months ago, and we’re already at over 100 members! 🤯

I’ve been fascinated with the immigrant/nomad/expat space since 2018. One of the aspects that reassured me the most about aspiring to live this life was the fact that Black communities are EVERYWHERE.

I’ve had the pleasure of joining Black community for meals in places like Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and others.

Once I saw that a community didn’t exist for Black women Malaga, Spain specifically, I knew it was my turn to give back by creating one.

…and here we are. Be the change you want to see! 🤎

(Even if you’re an introvert and you have to force yourself lmaoooo)

As highly requested, here is a look at my first home ❤️

I bought it in 2015 for $263,000 which is WILD to think about in 2024 considering how much prices have increased since.

Till this day, I am shocked that I was approved for this mortgage because even though it was priced well, I was only earning about $65,000 at the time at my monthly fees are up about 55% of my income.

It all worked out there, and I will forever be grateful for my little Liberty Village home 🥰 P.S.: If you didn’t know, this home is partly where the name of my brand, Liberty Leave, came from 😊
