As a Muslim, I Wish I Knew This Before Visiting New York in Ramadan 🌙 | Pakistan to America Series
In this vlog, I share my honest personal experience of visiting New York City during the holy month of Ramadan — especially from the perspective of someone trying to practice Ramadan seriously while traveling.
⚠️ Before anyone misunderstands — I absolutely loved New York City. It’s an amazing city, full of energy, diversity, and unforgettable experiences. I felt safer here than many other major cities I have visited.
But if you are someone who is strictly practicing Ramadan, fasting daily, praying regularly, and looking for a strong Ramadan atmosphere — there are some things I genuinely wish I had known before visiting New York during Ramadan.
And that’s exactly why I made this video — to help others planning their trip specially during the holy month of Ramadan.
🚶 My Walking Route – Hell’s Kitchen to Times Square:
This walking vlog follows my journey from Hell’s Kitchen to Times Square in New York City, where I share my personal Ramadan experience as a practicing Muslim traveler.
During Ramadan in NYC, I faced several challenges, including difficulty finding nearby mosques, limited halal food options in tourist-heavy areas, a less visible Ramadan atmosphere, and balancing fasting with travel and prayer schedules. At times, I relied on pizza slices, burgers, and quick halal street food because proper meals were not always easy to find.
Despite these challenges, New York is still home to a large Muslim community and many halal restaurants, especially in Queens, Brooklyn, and parts of Manhattan. However, Ramadan in NYC can feel more private and community-based compared to Muslim-majority cities.
The vlog also explores Times Square and the unique atmosphere of New York City, known for its giant LED billboards, Broadway theaters, street performers, and nonstop energy.
I also compare Ramadan in New York and London. Personally, London felt like it had stronger Ramadan vibes and a more visible Muslim presence, while I felt safer overall in New York City.
Additionally, I mention the beautiful Ramadan event held in Times Square, where a large Iftar and Taraweeh gathering brought Muslims from different backgrounds together in the heart of the city. You can watch that video here : https://youtu.be/tFNddxQXwtA
