The Unsung Heroes of the Spanish Era: Filipino Workers in the Fields
🌾 During Spanish colonial times in the Philippines (1565–1898), the backbone of society wasn’t the ruling elite or the friars, but the hardworking Filipino laborers who toiled day and night in the fields.
👨🌾 These men and women endured heavy burdens — from forced labor (polo y servicios) to paying high tributes (buwis) — all while providing the agricultural output that sustained towns, cities, and even exports abroad.
💪 Despite the hardships, their resilience, unity, and determination laid the foundations of our identity as Filipinos: hardworking, family-centered, and resourceful.
🔥 Today, when we look back at images like this, it’s not just history — it’s a reminder of the strength and sacrifices of our ancestors who shaped the Philippines we know today.
