Wrong Station

Wrong Station Canada's longest running original horror anthology podcast.

“You may wish to adjust the dial. “You may wish to adjust the dial.

You’re currently listening to... the Wrong Station.”

Season 11 starts this fall You’re currently listening to... the Wrong Station.”

Wrong Station is a horror anthology series, taking its inspiration from classic 1940s radio horror broadcasts like Quiet, Please and Lights Out. From the moment the haunting piano theme fades out, each story is told to you, personally, by a narrator with something

to hide, or something to confess. Wrong Station is created and produced by Alexander Saxton, Anthony Botelho, and Jacob Duarte Spiel.

Here’s round two, it’s just a smidge harder. See if you can guess the Wrong Station episode from THIS Spotify comment.

Greetings Grimoire Lovers and Loathers alike!

It is I, Daniel Grimoire-Club, here with another wonderful episode of GRIMOIRE CLUB over on Patreon.

This month we’re exploring one of Jacob’s all time favourite films: “God Told Me To”, the 1976 indie psychedelic horror masterpiece by Larry Cohen.

Ah yes, “God”. Hearing the very word causes me to strip off the clothing of the present and lower my n**e body into a hot tub of nostalgia.

God and I used to be chums. We knew each other in our school days. Overalls. Scraped knees. Eating bugs on the playground. Touch football.

I thought we would be friends forever. I don’t know who changed. Was it me? Did I reject my peers? Was my retreat into an endless library under the sand a subconscious attempt to run from my true self?

Or was it God who changed? When I knew him he was working as a barback at his aunt’s bluegrass club. Next thing I know it’s 17 centuries later and I hear he’s created the universe.

You think you know a person...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode.

Bones and scones,

Daniel Grimoire-Club

Horror can come from the strangest places!

On top of our regular show, we also make GRIMOIRE CLUB, a show that’s all about the art that influences Wrong Station.

Each month, Jacob, Alexander or Anthony chooses a piece of art, the other two read/watch/listen to it, and then we talk about how it made its mark on the show.

Today we’re unlocking a past episode for all of you, one that’s all about… a fan-made Pokémon game?

How this could possibly influence a horror podcast? You’ll have to listen to find out.

And if you like what you hear, there’s 30+ more Grimoire Club episodes available at the $10 or higher tier over on our Patreon!

We have some unfortunate news: Wrong Station did not receive an Ontario Arts Council grant for our 11th season.

We went back and forth on whether to share this, but I (Jacob) think it’s a chance to talk about the economics of running a completely independent show like Wrong Station.

This was a relatively small grant. It would have been equivalent to a month of pay at an entry-level job in Ontario. It also would have allowed us to pay a few writers/performers to contribute to Wrong Station.

This was not a life-altering grant. However, because we didn’t get it, it’s likely we’ll need to revisit our plans for Season 11, specifically the month of October.

We don’t blame the OAC for this. Thousands of creatives apply for these grants every year and there simply is not enough money to go around.

Meanwhile, the provincial government (not the OAC, who are lovely) is actively hostile to local creative professionals, but will happily invite major American productions to shoot in Toronto and Hamilton (and no shade to those productions either, they employ a lot of Ontarians).

That was a lot of gloom, but there are also positives.

THIS is exactly why we always say that our patrons are the ones keeping Wrong Station going. Grants are fickle. Investment is fickle. Advertisers are fickle.

But consistent, reliable support from our actual fans? That’s a foundation that can let us continue this show for as long as possible.

So, as always, thank you to our Patrons and loyal listeners. Grant or no grant, we wouldn’t be able to make our weird little stories without you.
