The daughter of a wealthy politician and a stylish homemaker Priya has had a privileged upbringing. With her career reaching new heights, Priya has come to the realization that she’s only missing one thing in life – the perfect man. Ask her parents and they’ll tell you “nothing is too good for our princess Priya”! PAUL, the groom- Harjinderpal, AKA Paul was born in a small village in rural India, and moved to Canada at the age of 12, when his uncle Darshan sent word of a new promised land called “ Brampton”. He has since struggled to maintain his new identity as a Canadian, while his parents continue to live life on their farm in India. His parents sent him to Canada in hopes that he would become a Canadian citizen and set up a new life for them there. Upon completion of his high school degree, he entered the business program at York University and met Priya just prior to graduation. SHEENA- the maid of honor. Truly a bridesmaid scorned, Sheena has been engaged 3 times but has never actually made it to the altar. Convinced that she is the perfect catch, she is determined to out-do everyone at this wedding.... Including the bride! And now that her 30th birthday falls on the night of the reception, her only other goal is to find the perfect groom for herself in the process. SUNNY- the best man. Determined to party harder than any other guest at the wedding. Definitely not the guy you want planning your fiancees stag, Sunny is going to make sure that Paul’s last days as a ‘single soldier’ are the best of his life! ALY Qureshi (mid 20’s): Best Man #2. Everything in Aly’s world is a scene straight out of a Bollywood movie. He met Paul during his first year at York University, where his parents thought he was studying business, but he was really a student in the Fine Arts program majoring in Drama. Aly has dreamt of making it big in Bollywood one day and loves to show the world his talent. Like Sunny he feels that Paul is getting married too early, and together, he and Sunny scheme to find ways to keep their trio together! SUBASH, Father of the bride, Aka Sam, Golf, restaurants and parties encompass his social life, so this wedding will be his chance to throw a lavish, first class party for his only daughter. Sam is a well-respected and esteemed politician, and also somewhat of a know-it-all. He’s all about ‘who knows who’ in the world of politics and spends countless hours raving about his lovely and successful daughter Priya. SUNITA – mother of the bride, Aka Sue. Sue is a self-professed “domestic engineer” and prides herself on keeping a beautiful and spotless home. She spends her free time shopping, attending kitty parties and also raving about her perfect daughter Priya. BALDEV, father of the groom Baldev is anything but polished. Living in a rural village in India, Baldev spends endless hours working on his family farm. He spends his free time dreaming of a life in Canada where he will hopefully one day work as a security guard at Pearson airport. He is a hard worker and has placed great confidence in his younger brother Darshan to help Paul get Canadian citizenship and make their dream of living in Canada a reality. DALJIT, mother of the groom – Daljit is a traditional Indian Farmer’s wife. She cooks and cleans and attends to all the household needs. She spends her free time sewing baby clothes in hopes for Paul to one day marry. UNCLE DARSHAN, Uncle of the Groom. Uncle D is a ‘rough around the edges’, loud and often rowdy man who is always causing a scene. With his thick Indian accent, Darshan is usually a spectacle waiting to happen at every family function, and Paul & Priya’s wedding will be no different. He serves as the liaison between the two families and is the main point of contact for the wedding planning on Paul’s side. Uncle D feels that he missed his calling as a Bollywood actor in his younger days, so has instead adapted to the Canadian way of life working at the local Walmart and can always be found singing along to English songs wherever he goes! BIBI, Paul’s Grandmother: Our dear sweet Bibi is anything but that. The grandmother of our groom is miserable about everything to do with this wedding - from refusing to wear a new suit to the reception to standing 2 feet away from the bride in the family photos. This bitter old woman is determined to ruin the night for our newlyweds! She never leaves home without her over- sized purse, which holds a wide array of prescription medicines and vitamins. She is also accompanied by the spirit of her late husband Baba’s ghost, and is often found arguing out loud with him and reminiscing about ‘the good old days’. VIK OBEROI, Master of Ceremonies: Born and raised in Toronto, Vik has known Priya since birth, as his parents are best friends with Priya’s parents. Vik is your modern day metrosexual.
