Ever felt a sense of pride buying a product with a big maple leaf on it, thinking you’re supporting local? 🇨🇦 You might want to take a closer look.
A Montrealer has launched a class-action lawsuit against major grocery chains like Provigo, Metro, Sobeys, Walmart, and Giant Tiger, accusing them of “maple-washing.”
The lawsuit claims these stores are using “Made in Canada” tags and patriotic symbols on products that are actually imported from other countries. One lawyer on the case calls it “false advertising 101,” arguing that it preys on our “patriotic and moral compasses.”
This comes at a time when many Canadians are already feeling distrustful of major grocers.
