Hi everyone. I know it’s been a while since I have posted anything. But things are quite here at the shelter right now.
For those who are joining us for the first time. Let me say welcome and thanks for liking or following our page. If you are not familiar with us, we are a cat rescue Thats been operating since 1995. We have taken in and adopted out hundreds of cats into amazing homes. At this moment in time our founder, Sonia is no longer taking in cats or kittens. Sonia is elderly and has had some health issues that has resulted in her no longer being able to run her beloved rescue.
I, Susan , and her son Tom have taken up the reins and stepped in where Sonia can no longer. We have 23 cats here and 5 are up for adoption and the remaining 18 are here for the remainder of their lives. These 18 are seniors with health issues that over the years no one wanted to take on. The 5 that are up for adoption are under 2 years old and we need to find them homes.
Our senior cats need help. With food donations and money. As Sonia is no longer active within the rescue community or the community in large it makes it hard for us financially. Sonia had lots of connections and donations coming in from all over Ontario. Now we have very little coming in. I do not know how she did it and due to her health issues Sonia can’t remember most of her connections. But we need your help any way possible.
We buy prescription foods. Medications and regular cats food. We buy litter in bulk every year for over $1000 each time. Let me break it down for everybody what we spend our donations on.
We have 23 cats here.
Aurora (2), Calista (1), Kamira (1) , Thomas (1), Timothy (1) (these are the 5 for adoption). Gail ,Molly and wild rose all eat 1 large bag of kibble ( approx $75-100 a bag) every 3 weeks. They also eat 5 containers twice a day of whiskas wet food ($70 every 4.5 days)
Oliver eats prescription foods. Wet costs us $65 a case and dry $75 a small bag.
Roy’s food for his urinary issue costs over $100 for dry food alone. $90 for his wet food off Amazon.
Stellar eats similar foods to Oliver and the cost is the same.
Shadow her wet food comes from chewy at the cost of $52 every 12 days. She’s not much of a dry food eater.
Cornelius has kidney disease so his food is prescription wet dry. It’s over $200 for 1 months supply of food for him.
Sky is diabetic. She required the same food that frosty ( also diabetic) does. The d/m dry is $80. One flat of food is just shy of that price as well. We go through two flats a month.
Frosty (7) is diabetic. He is not only on prescription foods but his senvelgo medication runs us just shy of $400 for 2.5 months.
Alfie has mega colon hes on perscription wet and dry food but also we buy the royal canine digestive wet food for him as he eats 3 times a day. Hes also on restorlax and lactose daily to keep things moving smoothly. We buy the restorlax at costco and the digestive wet food off chewy
Marigold, Maggie and Marmalade go through a large bage of dry food ($100 a bag) and whatever wet food is donated for them to eat.
Casper is just regular dry food and whiskas wet food.
Ila and Jackie have food allergies. They are not on prescription foods but their food is not cheap from the chewy app. They eat purina sensitive skin and stomach lamb/or / salmon and rice. Wet and dry food.
Plus Oliver, Stellar, Ila and Jack are on slippery elm to help with gut issues. We also have Oliver on antibiotics for his gut issues as well.
Now none of this above includes any vet bills we accumulate for the cats. This year alone we are already $6000 in just on that. We have lost 5 cats due to health related illnesses since January. Each one was a ER visit. They last two weeks lost were only 6 days apart. These take a toll on us here as we have an aging population of cats and some cats, like Katen go real fast and dispite ours and the vets efforts we can’t save them al. But we fight for them with everything we have. As they matter to us.
All of these older cats have been here with us for years. These are the cats that got overlooked at the adoption centre. These cats are well cared for and well loved. They will always have a loving home here with us till they pass on. But in the mean time we need to be able to afford their care.
This long winded post is about that. It’s about us needed money to pay these vet bills and purchase prescription foods. It’s about finding homes for the 5 babies that would love to have a family of their own.
We need on average 3-4 large bags of regular dry cat food a month. We go through 13-16 containers of whiskas wet food a day. Frosty need a refill on his medication that $400. We have about $110 left from the last time we raised money for it.
So if you can, we need donations. Small or large doesn’t matter. $5 or $100. Or anywhere in between. We have an amazon wish list Thats all over the page. Donations from that are always appreciated. We also know that chewy and petsmart can be cheaper than Amazon. So if you see something on our list that you know is cheaper somewhere else, our address is listed with the Amazon wish list ( not sure if it’s on the page here or not) but please feel free to send it along. And if you can’t ship it to us and reach out pick up can be arranged on weekends.
We have 105 followers on here. Let’s see if we can get everyone to help out. We have our small handful of regulars that send us food when they can and we thank you soo very much. This post is more for all the new people on here and the people just passing through. We ask that if you can’t help out, share the page or post. If you would like to help but don’t know how , do a bake sale a lemonade stand. A yard sale with proceeds to us. There are many ways you could help.
We thank all of you for taking the time to visit our page. Maybe one of you might want to adopt a cat?! Here’s our donation email and I’ll post the Amazon page again as well.
