Guyana Set to Surpass 1 Million Barrels of Oil Per Day
Guyana is on track to exceed one million barrels of oil production per day, further cementing its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing oil producers and a major emerging energy player.
According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), the country’s oil production is expected to cross the one million barrels per day mark with the continued expansion of offshore operations and the startup of additional projects in the Stabroek Block.
Current production has already surpassed 900,000 barrels per day, following the successful ramp-up of the Yellowtail development, Guyana’s fourth offshore oil project operated by ExxonMobil Guyana and its partners. ExxonMobil previously announced that output from the Stabroek Block reached a major milestone in late 2025.
DPI reported that with upcoming projects such as Uaru and Whiptail, each expected to add approximately 250,000 barrels per day, Guyana’s production capacity is projected to rise significantly in the coming years. Officials say the expansion is expected to generate increased revenues, economic growth, and investment opportunities for the country.
The government has repeatedly highlighted the oil sector as a key driver of economic transformation, while also stressing the importance of ensuring revenues support infrastructure, healthcare, education, and national development.
However, some stakeholders continue to raise questions about how oil wealth will be distributed, local content opportunities, environmental protection, and long-term economic sustainability.
Guyana began commercial oil production in December 2019 and has since emerged as one of the fastest-growing oil-producing nations globally, with more than 11 billion barrels of recoverable oil resources discovered offshore.
