Dinner and Drinks 🍒🍕

Our trio met up for an overdue birthday celebration meal at Cherry's and what a great experience it was!

Since the weather was sweltering, I started off with their Raspberry Mojito (16 CAD) which was refreshing and a great start to the meal.

For appetizers we ordered the Mozzarella Sticks (14 CAD) and Cajun Curly Fries (9 CAD) to share. The mozzarella sticks had a delicate crisp shell, were nicely seasoned and had a generous amount of cheese in the centre. The slightly sweet marinara was also refreshing, and made for a nice dip. The curly fries could've used a little more Cajun seasoning but had the perfect satisfying crunch while still being light and airy in the centre.

For mains, we all ordered different Tavern Style Bar Pies (22 CAD each). I had the Spicy Soppressata which had mozzarella, jalapeños and soppressata (a dry cured Italian salami). The signature thin crust was lightly charred and had a slight chew. And the square cuts also made each slice under 2 bites, which is perfect for being able to chat and laugh while also continually eating. Albeit not a particularly impressive main, the flavours worked well together and was enjoyable.

We ended the night by sharing a complimentary slice of cheesecake which came with a few birthday candles, a side swirl of whipped cream, and was topped with a raspberry coulis and maraschino cherries. It was creamy, and well balanced!

Overall, has excellent, friendly service, decent food, and an awesome vibe. It was a Thursday evening when we dined there. The energy on the patio was unparalleled, and they also have a great music playlist on in the background. Cherry's is a super cool spot to soak in the Toronto summer, and I'll definitely be back to try their other menu items.

Final Rating: 8/10 🎸🤌🏽

TOSHA 💍🎆

My best friend is officially getting MARRIED!!! 🥹🥹🥹

She landed in Toronto after a long haul flight from her engagement in Punjab, and brought back a beautiful mithai box for me.

Fully expecting the usual assortment, imagine my surprise when she asked if I've ever had Tosha.

"Tosha?"

This sweet that is over 100 years old, comes from the city of Pakpattan (present day Pakistan). After Partition in 1947, a beloved halwai named Lala Munshi Ram made his way from Pakpattan to the city of Fazilka in Punjab, India.

Now 4 generations later, Lala Munshi Ram's family continue to serve this delicious sweet, from the shop known internationally as PAKPATTNIAN DI HATTI, which translates to 'the shop of the people of Pakpattan', an ode to their legacy, history and community.

Made by kneading Khoya (evaporated milk solids), Paneer (fresh South Asian cheese), and flour among other ingredients, the Tosha are then deep fried and momentarily submerged in sugar syrup.

As instructed by the bride-to-be herself, I microwaved a few Tosha for 10 seconds, and what a treat! Slightly firm on the outside, soft on the inside, lightly syrupy, and reminiscent of the familiar scent, texture and flavour of gulab jamun.

In the same family as a Beignet, Timbit and Gulab Jamun (deep-fried goodness finished with powdered/syruped sugar), Tosha are ever so slightly crunchy, unique and suprisingly light, with the perfect amount of decadence and sweetness.

Have you ever had Tosha? Let me know in the comments ❤️
