The D&I Committee is giving away 3 tickets to the SOLD OUT event “The Porter at Mayworks”. DM for tickets, First come first served.

and Arnold Pinnock are hosting a special screening of The Porter on May 26, 2026, at 6 pm at the Paradise Theatre, as part of the Mayworks Festival.

Following the screening, we will host a panel discussion with The Porter cast and various Black labour unionists to reflect on organizing, solidarity, and the ongoing fight for dignity and workers’ rights amid renewed union activism and precarity.

The Porter is a Canadian-American drama series that depicts the history of Black Canadian and African-American men who worked as Pullman porters in the period following World War I, culminating in the 1925 creation of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first Black-led labour union.

The Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts is a community-based festival that annually presents works by a diverse range of artists who are both workers and activists. The programming presents bold, insightful responses to pressing issues at the intersection of art, social justice and labour, prioritizing representation and participation from communities facing systemic discrimination.
