Luma Publishing Launches a New Chapter in Arab-Canadian Literary Collaboration
Toronto – In a bold step towards redefining Arab publishing in North America, LUMA Publishing announces its official launch, marking a new phase born from the strategic merger of Hadiroun Publishing and BookTransits Media and Distribution. With over five years of collective experience in the Canadian and American publishing landscape, the newly unified entity is set to offer a refreshed vision rooted in professionalism, creativity, and cross-cultural literary exchange.
The rebranding to LUMA that highlights the themes of LIGHT and Innovation, marks strategic shift in direction and purpose—one that responds to the growing need for a professional, inclusive platform that supports Arab Canadian writers and opens pathways for translation, visibility, and global readership.
At the heart of this new phase are two leading Palestinian cultural figures: poet Younes Attari and novelist-poet Basima Takrouri, who join as co-founders.
Younes Attari is a Palestinian poet whose literary and cultural vision led him to establish Hadiroun Publishing in Canada, aiming to elevate Arab literature and provide writers with meaningful access to diaspora and international audiences. Over the years, he has built extensive experience in publishing, distribution, and cultural project management, establishing partnerships across local and international networks. His dual identity as a writer and cultural entrepreneur has made him a central figure in the Arab-Canadian literary scene.
Basima Takrouri, a Jerusalem-born Palestinian novelist and poet based in Canada, brings to Luma a wealth of expertise in publishing, literary marketing, and industry engagement. With an academic background in media and literature, her understanding of North American print and digital markets strengthens Luma’s capacity to support writers in navigating the complexities of publishing and reaching multilingual audiences.
LUMA Publishing is now open to writers seeking a distinctive and impactful publishing experience, offering editorial support, professional distribution, and the possibility of translation from and into Arabic, English and French, with a focus on cross-cultural literary presence.
The Publishing house will soon announce its publishing policy and submission process, inviting writers to become part of the LUMA family and embark on a journey grounded in respect, professionalism, and shared purpose.
LUMA is more than a publishing house—it is a cultural initiative with a bold vision to connect Arab creativity to the world.
