F**g Ahmed, an Azerbaijani contemporary artist, reimagines traditional carpets through a surreal, digital lens—melting, glitching, and warping centuries-old motifs into bold new forms. His work bridges the sacred geometry of the past with the chaos of modern identity, creating woven illusions that challenge our sense of time, place, and tradition.

Su Nuraxi: Sardinia’s Prehistoric Stone Giant.
Before the dominance of Rome or Greece, the people of Sardinia were constructing monumental stone structures known as nuraghi. Among them, Su Nuraxi near Barumini stands as the most iconic.
Built in the 17th century BCE, this fortress complex features a central tower surrounded by four corner towers, forming a bastion of defense and community life. By the 13th century BCE, a thriving village had emerged around it, complete with stone dwellings arranged in circular formations.
Artifacts found here indicate a sophisticated culture skilled in metalwork, textiles, and long-distance trade. Unlike other Mediterranean civilizations, the Nuragic people developed a distinctive identity shaped by isolation and resilience.

💎✨ Move over, Cinderella’s mice… a French artist is working with real-life insect jewelers! ✨💎

Meet Hubert Duprat, the artist who collaborates with caddisfly larvae—tiny underwater architects that normally build protective cases from pebbles and shells. In Duprat’s studio, though, they’re handed gold leaf, pearls, rubies, sapphires, and coral.

The result? Exquisite, glittering bug-built jewelry. Think Fabergé eggs, if Fabergé had fins and antennae.

These freshwater creatures use silk secretions to glue their luxury materials together—building ornate, wearable sculptures while they grow.

Is it child labor or genius biomimicry? Either way, it’s a reminder that even the smallest lives are born makers. 🐛💍🌊

🧠 Would you wear insect-crafted jewelry?

In the early 19th century, the "Neapolitan hat" became a popular fashion among women. Originally designed to shield them from the sun, the hat's wide brims gradually expanded over time.

This change was influenced by French etiquette, which discouraged public displays of affection—particularly kissing. The expression "tête-à-tête" (meaning "face to face, in private") reflects this era's emphasis on discretion, even though kissing under such large brims became awkward.Following a plague epidemic, social customs shifted again, with kisses replaced by handshakes and a respectful hat-off greeting.

This might be the oldest recorded dessert in history.

Meet Mersu: sweet, sticky date and nut confection from ancient Mesopotamia, first written down on Babylonian clay tablets over 3,700 years ago.

Made simply from mashed dates, chopped nuts, and honey, Mersu wasn’t just a treat but was also sacred. These bite-sized sweets were served at religious ceremonies, royal feasts, and temple offerings in the Old Babylonian Empire.

Professional pastry chefs prepared them in service to the gods, showcasing the symbolic power of the date palm: a symbol of life, fertility, and abundance in the ancient world.

No flour. No fire. Just three ingredients and 3,700 years of flavor.
