New Episode Alert!

What does it mean to age?

For some, aging is about gaining wisdom. For others, it’s about slowing down. As societies change, so does our definition of aging—and the way we treat our seniors.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Rose Joudi, a researcher, consultant, and international speaker whose work focuses on ethnocultural diversity, elder abuse, and ageism.

In our conversation, we explored:
✨ How the meaning of aging has shifted in recent years
✨ What elder abuse looks like—and why it’s often hidden in plain sight
✨ The powerful role cultural beliefs play in shaping how families and communities view seniors
✨ Why community support isn’t just helpful, it's essential

This episode is a reminder that aging is not just a personal journey—it’s a collective responsibility.

Personal Support Worker (PSW) Day is celebrated in Ontario on May 19th.
While many of us juggle school drop-offs, work, and daily life, we may not always be there for our loved ones who need care. That’s where our incredible hashtag (PSWs) step in.
Ever wondered what a PSW's day looks like? What kind of support do they need to keep doing this essential work?
I sat down with Vanessa Vargas from PSW to the Rescue in the latest episode of Geetika_ki_Canadian_Diary to talk about all this and more.
It’s a conversation you’ll want to watch till the very end!

'Life After Retirement' and 'Living Your Old Age' - the concept is changing rapidly in India. According to a recent report, India's living housing sector is expected to skyrocket over 300% by 2030. Have South Asian views evolved as well?

In my newest episode I had a conversation about this and more! - with Sonia Ojha, Director of Community Relations at Amica Seniors Lifestyles in Mississauga. Have a listen!

In recent years, in casual conversations with friends who practice medicine, or doctors in the elevators of hospitals (and I can't help striking up a conversation because I like talking to people!), an issue that keeps coming up is - our medical concepts of most diseases are generally based on understandings of male physiology.
For example - how many of us know that men and women have altogether different symptoms when having a heart attack?
How many girls around the world in most cultures are told - passing out with menstrual pain is normal!? Pain is part of being a woman!?

As a society, we can do better than this, this New Year and moving forward. We can support our girls, listen and provide help.

In our newest episode, I had a conversation with Dr. Saunia Ahmad, Director and Clinical Psychologist at the Toronto Psychology Clinic, about what's going on, and how to be an advocate for yourself, so that you can get the medical support you need.

An important read. As a Canadian, things that remind me that sometimes struggles of human beings go beyond geographic boundaries and ethnicities and it is never too late to learn about them, become part of the support system and work together for a solution. Thanks for another bold book.

In our latest episode, I spoke with Toronto-based author, climate advocate and mom, Puneeta Chhitwal-Varma. It was an interesting conversation - her growing up in a family that was always on the move, learning about and eating foods from various parts of India, what can we do here in Canada to make food accessible to those who don’t have enough, and much more. Her new book ‘Good Food, Healthy Planet’ is all about simple steps each one of us can take to cook healthy - and keep our planet and bodies in a happy state. Take a listen!
